Compression, Checking: Procedure

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the connector on the Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve -N276- -2-.

-- In order to reduce the fuel pressure in the high pressure reservoir, start the engine briefly.

-- Remove all glow plugs. Refer to GLOW PLUG, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the : VAG1763/8  in place of the glow plug and connect the : VAG1763  .

NOTE:

Information on using the tester. Refer to the Operating Instructions.

-- Have a second technician operate the starter until the test stops showing an increase in pressure.

-- Repeat the procedure on each cylinder.

Compression Pressure Pressure
New 25.0 to 31.0 bar (362.59 to 449.617 psi)
Wear limit 19.0 bar (275.57 psi)
Maximum difference between cylinders 5.0 bar (72.51 psi)

Assembling 

Assemble in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

-- If the connectors were disconnected and the engine was started, then malfunctions have been stored in the engine control module DTC memory. Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
