Coolant Pump, Removing And Installing: Installing

-- Replace the housing seal -arrows-.

-- Replace the toothed belt as well if the coolant pump is being replaced.

• Secure all hose connections with standard production hose clamps.

-- Make sure the seals fit correctly -arrows-.

-- Coat the seal on the coolant pump with coolant.

-- Turn cylinder 1 to TDC. Refer to VALVE TIMING, CHECKING .

-- Lay the toothed belt in the center and move the coolant pump into its installed position.

-- Position the coolant pump and bolts on the cylinder head.

-- Tighten the bolts in the specified sequence:

-- Loosen all the bolts one turn.

-- Position the :VAS6583  with a 10 mm inner hex socket -6- on the coolant pump.

-- Pretension the coolant pump on the inner hex socket clockwise to 30 Nm using a 10 mm socket -6-, extension and :VAS6583  .

-- For better operation, mount the : VAS6583  vertically.

• Support the torque wrench with the other hand.
• To avoid a belt tension that is too high, the torque wrench must not be >>over pressured<<.
• A second technician must tighten the bolts -2, 1 and 5-.
• During this, the first technician holds the torque on the :VAS6583  .

-- Hold the coolant pump under pretension.

-- While doing so, have a second technician pre-tighten the coolant pump bolts clockwise beginning with bolt -2, 1 and 5- >>step 3<<.

• The desired belt tension is reached by tightening the bolts -2, 1 and 5-.
• The :VAS6583  can be removed after the bolts are pre-tightened.

-- Then tighten the bolts in >>step 4<<.

Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal, while noting the following:

Coolant hose connection diagram. Refer to CONNECTION DIAGRAM - COOLANT HOSES .

-- Fill with coolant. Refer to Filling .
