The selector mechanism and the selector lever cable cannot be separated from each other. Both are removed at the same time. It may be necessary to create some open space in the engine compartment. This air filter housing usually needs to be removed.

In the vehicle interior, it may be necessary to remove the center console.

Removing

NOTE:

After installation, the cable movement must be checked and adjusted.

-- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.

-- Remove the selector handle. Refer to SELECTOR HANDLE WITH COVER .

-- Remove the center console. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the 4 bolts.

Tightening specification: 8 Nm

-- Lift the vehicle.

-- Remove the heat shield under the selector mechanism. This makes it easier to remove the selector mechanism later.

Remove the heat shield and exhaust system components, if necessary. Refer to one of the following:

For diesel engines, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

For gas engines, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BPY] REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , or CCTA, CBFA] REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Loosen the adjusting bolt -arrow-.

NOTE:

Use pliers to remove the lock washer -B-. Do not use a sharp-edged tool. This could damage the rubber grommet.

-- Remove the lock washers -A and B-. The lock washers must be replaced when adjusting the cable.

-- Remove the selector mechanism.

Install in reverse order of removal.

-- Check the cable before installing onto the ball head. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING .

-- Install the removed exhaust system, if necessary. Refer to one of the following:

Install the exhaust system components and heat shield, if necessary. Refer to one of the following: Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BPY] REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , or CCTA, CBFA] REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

For diesel engines, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Adjust the selector lever cable after installing. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING .
