Right Flange Shaft, Seal And Sleeve, Two Piece

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Thrust Piece T10160
Subframe Support Assembling Device 3253/2/2
Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) V.A.G 1331

Removing

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Turn the steering wheel as far as possible toward right.

-- Remove the drive axle heat shield bolts -arrows- and shield, if equipped.

-- Remove the drive axle -1- from the flange shaft.

-- Tie the drive axle as high up as possible. Be careful not to damage the paint on the drive axle.

-- Place the drip tray under the transmission and engine.

-- On diesel engines only, remove the turbocharger oil return line -arrow- from the engine. Refer to [For engine(s) BRM] Description and Operation .

-- Remove the bolt for the flange shaft, by installing two bolts into the flange and counter holding the flange shaft using a pry bar.

-- Remove the flange shaft and the pressure spring.

-- Pry out the seal -A- with a screwdriver. Support the screwdriver on the 3253/2 when prying out the seal.

NOTE:

Be careful not to damage the sleeve otherwise there will be leaks.

Replace the sleeve if it is damaged, refer to TRANSMISSION HOUSING AND CLUTCH HOUSING => Prying out the Sleeve -arrow- .

Installing

-- Install the seal all the way in without tilting it.

-- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lip half way with sealing grease G 052 128 A1.

-- Install the flange shaft.

-- Install the flange shaft bolt.

-- On diesel engines only, install the turbocharger oil return line -arrow- to the engine. Refer to [For engine(s) BRM] Description and Operation .

-- Install the drive axle -1- to the flange shaft. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the drives axle heat shield and bolts -arrows-, if equipped, -arrows-. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELDS .

-- Check the transmission fluid level and fill if necessary. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID, CHECKING AND FILLING .

-- Attach the noise insulation. Refer to Description and Operation .

Tightening Specifications

Flange shaft to transmission (conical head bolt), see "Bolt" in -item 12- DIFFERENTIAL .
