Right Flange Shaft, Seal And Sleeve, One Piece

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Thrust Piece T10148
• Spindle from Seal Installer Set - Rear Diff 3066
• Slide Hammer-Complete Set VW 771
• Additional Part for VW 771 VW 771/37
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) V.A.G 1331
• Drip Tray

Removing 

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Turn the steering wheel as far as possible toward the right.

-- Remove the drive axle heat shield -arrows- and shield, if equipped.

-- Remove the drive axle -1- from the flange shaft.

-- Tie the drive axle as high up as possible. Be careful not to damage the paint on the drive axle.

-- Place the drip tray under the transmission and engine.

-- On diesel engines only, remove the turbocharger oil return line -arrow- from the engine. Refer to [For engine(s) BRM] Description and Operation .

-- Remove the bolt for the flange shaft, by installing two bolts into the flange and counter holding the flange shaft using a pry bar.

-- Remove the flange shaft and the pressure spring.

-- Replace the seal and the sleeve together.

A ridge is located on the internal diameter of the sleeve.

-- Attach the VW 771/37 directly behind the ridge inside the sleeve.

-- Using force, push the VW 771/37 into the sleeve.

Installing 

-- Clean the seal seat inside the transmission.

-- Install the seal and the sleeve together.

A - Install the spindle from the 3066 into the threaded piece in the differential.

B - M12 nut

-- Turn the nut -B- and pull the seal with the sleeve all the way over the T10148.

-- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lip half way with sealing grease G 052 128 A1.

-- Install the flange shaft.

-- Install the flange shaft bolt.

-- On diesel engines only, install the turbocharger oil return line -arrow- to the engine. Refer to [For engine(s) BRM] Description and Operation .

-- Install the drive axle -1- to the flange shaft. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the drive axle heat shield and bolts -arrows-, if equipped. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELDS .

-- Check the transmission fluid level and fill if necessary. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID, CHECKING AND FILLING .

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to Description and Operation .

Tightening Specifications 

Flange shaft to transmission (conical head bolt), see "Bolt" in -item 12- DIFFERENTIAL .
