Engine Mount Bracket

Engine support bridge 10 - 222 A
Adapter 10 - 222 A/8
Adapter 10 - 222 A/820
Torque Wrench V.A.G 1331

Removing

NOTE:

Observe safety precautions FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

-- Turn the ignition and all electrical consumers off and remove the ignition key.

-- Remove engine cover.

One Piece Engine Cover

Pull the one piece front engine cover -arrows A- upward with a quick jerk and then pull the lower mount -arrow B- forward.

Two Piece Engine Cover

On the two piece engine cover, first pull the outer cover upward with a quick jerk -arrows in the upper illustration-, then pull the inner engine cover upward with a quick jerk -arrows in lower illustration-.

WARNING:

The fuel or fuel lines in fuel system can become very hot (danger of scalding)!
In addition, the fuel system is under pressure! Before opening the system, place rags around the connection area and release pressure by carefully loosening the connection!
Wear protective goggles and protective gloves when working on the fuel system!

-- Loosen the fuel line connection couplings -arrows-.

NOTE:

To do this, press the connection coupling retaining tab.

Make sure no fuel leaks out (use a rag).

-- Remove the fuel filter with the hoses still connected and lay it to the side.

-- Remove the upper coolant hose on the expansion tank.

-- Remove the expansion tank and lay it to the side.

-- Remove charge air tube between charge air cooler and turbocharger. Carefully cover or seal any open ends.

-- Attach the engine support bridge 10 - 222 A with the frame 10 - 222 A/8 and adapter 10 - 222 A/3 and adapter 10 - 222 A/16 in front of the hood gas-filled strut.

-- Hook the carabiner hooks of the spindles into the lifting eyes. Use the adapter 10 - 222 A/20 on the right side as well.

-- Uniformly preload engine using both spindles, do not raise.

-- Unscrew the bolts -arrows- from the engine mount and remove the mount completely.

NOTE:

The subframe may only be removed if the engine is supported by the engine support bridge 10 - 222 A!

The engine mount may first be loosened only when the subframe is removed.

WARNING:

Make sure that no components/hoses are damaged, over-stretched or torn when lifting or lowering engine using engine support bridge 10-222A.

-- Remove noise insulation Removal and Installation .

-- Remove front right wheel housing liner.

-- Lift the engine with the engine support bridge 10-222A just enough until it is possible to loosen and remove both upper engine mount bracket bolts.

-- Lower the engine using engine support bridge 10-222A far enough until lower bolt can loosened and removed.

-- Remove the engine mount bracket upward.

Installing

-- Position the engine mount bracket on the cylinder block from above.

-- Install the new bolts and tighten them by hand.

CAUTION:

Always adhere to the tightening sequence and the tightening specifications for the engine mount bolts, otherwise the engine mount may become over tensioned and could break.

-- Tighten the engine mount bracket bolts in the sequence -1 through 3- shown to 40 Nm + ¹ /₂ , then an 180°. To do this, lift or lower the engine with the engine support bridge 10 - 222 A.

NOTE:

Before the engine mount bracket can be installed, all bolts -arrows- for the engine mount must be tightened to specifications.

-- Install engine mount/body (replace bolts)ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION MOUNT TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .

-- Fasten engine mount to engine mount bracket -arrows-, bringing the contact surfaces into contact using the engine support bridge 10-222A.

Tightening specifications 60 Nm + 90° (¹ /₄ turn) additional turn.

The rest of the assembly is basically a reverse of the disassembling sequence. When doing this note the following:

Ensure fuel hoses are seated securely.
Do not interchange supply and return lines (return line is blue or has blue marking, supply line is black).
When installing the charge air pipes, make sure the retaining tabs are securely locked.

-- Install the wheel housing liner.

-- Install noise insulation Removal and Installation .
