Valve Body: Installing

-- Observe the correct routing of the wires so that they do not get pinched when installing the valve body.

-- Route the wiring harness -5- into the transmission as illustrated.

The distance -a- must be maintained so that the wiring harness -5- does not touch the planetary gear and get damaged when the vehicle is being driven.

-- Place the wiring harnesses -1, 3, 4 and 5- over the edge of the transmission, as illustrated.

-- Attach the wiring harnesses to the transmission with tape.

-- Install the piston -2- in the transmission as illustrated.

-- If the piston -2- was removed, then clean it and the spring and install them, see "Spring" in -item 29-: VALVE BODY OVERVIEW .

-- Lubricate the piston -2- and the mount with ATF.

-- Insert the spring in the piston.

-- Place the piston with the spring into the mount in the transmission.

-- To prevent the piston from falling down, push it into the transmission until the valve body is mounted.

-- Carefully install the valve body without pushing on it.

Be careful not to pinch the wiring harnesses -1, 3, 4 and 5- with the valve body.

-- Replace the valve body bolts -arrows-.

-- Pay attention to the different bolt lengths:

Bolts -arrows-		M6 x 21
Bolts -arrows A-		M6 x 16
Bolts -arrows B-		M6 x 28

-- Install the wiring harness brackets -1 and 2- with new bolts hand tight.

-- Tighten the remaining valve body bolts -arrows-, -arrows A- and -arrows B- hand tight.

-- If the wires -3, 5 and 9- are too short to be able to attach to the sensors or to the valve body, then they were routed incorrectly or they have been pinched by the valve body. The valve body must be removed again and the wires must be routed correctly.

Be careful not to pinch the wires -3, 5 and 9- with the valve body.

-- Tighten the new bolts -arrows-, -arrows A- and -arrows B- starting from the inside and working out. Tightening specifications, refer to FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .

-- Engage the wiring harness -3- in the bracket -7- -arrow B-.

-- Attach the shift lever -2- to the selector shaft -6-.

When doing this, make sure the pin on the selector lever -2- engages into the slider -1- -arrow A-. Position the slider if necessary.

-- Install the washer -5- and nut -4- on the selector shaft -6-.

The collar on the nut must always face the washer and fit into the washer when the nut is tightened.

The wiring harness must be routed underneath the selector shaft lever.

-- Tighten the nut on the shift lever -1-. Tightening specification, refer to FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .

-- When doing this, hold the shift lever -1- secure with pliers -2- so that it does not turn when removing the multifunction transmission range switch.

-- Make sure the slide -3- on the valve body in which the shift lever engages is not damaged.

-- Connect the connectors to the solenoid valves -2 through 9- according to the marks made earlier.

WARNING:

Confusing the connectors could cause damage to the transmission.

The wiring harness or the valve body with the solenoid valves must be replaced if the one of the connectors gets damaged.

-- Route the wiring harness -1- as illustrated.

-- Connect the connectors -2 and 5-.

Counterparts of the connectors must have the same identification as the respective connectors.

-- Position the bracket on the transmission fluid temperature sensor -7-.

-- Install the transmission fluid temperature sensor and the bracket into the valve body.

-- Tighten the bolt -6-. Tightening specification, refer to FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .

-- Connect the connectors to the automatic transmission hydraulic pressure sensor 1 -1- and the automatic transmission hydraulic pressure sensor 2 -4-, if equipped.

-- Tighten the bolts -3- on the bracket for the connectors -2 and 5-. Tightening specification, refer to FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .

-- If the wires are too shore to be attached, then they were routed incorrectly or the valve body is pinching them. The valve body must be removed again and wires must be routed correctly.

-- Engage the wiring harness into the bracket -8- and route it as illustrated.

-- Install the filter. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID FILTER .

-- Install the transmission pan. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID PAN .

-- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Fill the ATF and check the level. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING AND FILLING .

-- Connect VAS 5051 and move through the selections until "Functions-/component selections" is displayed.

-- Press "Drive (Repair Groups 01;10 through 26; 28 through 39)".

-- After that "6-speed automatic transmission 09G".

-- Press "01 - OBD".

-- Press "Functions".

-- Press "basic setting".
