Catalytic Converter With Front Exhaust Pipe

Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required 

• Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) VAG 1331

Removing 

-- Remove the engine cover/upper air filter housing. Refer to ENGINE COVER/UPPER AIR FILTER HOUSING .

-- Disconnect the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) electrical connector -arrow- and free up the wire.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- of the front exhaust pipe/turbocharger.

-- Remove right underbody trim retainer -arrows- and trim.

-- Unclip the wire -arrow-, remove the connector from the bracket -1- and disconnect the connector -2- for the Oxygen Sensor (O2S) behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC).

-- Loosen the exhaust system clamp -arrows-.

-- Remove the exhaust system suspended mount bolts -arrows-.

-- Remove the front crossmember nuts -arrows- and crossmember.

-- Remove the catalytic converter with front exhaust pipe.

Installing 

Installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:

• Lubricate the turbocharger stud bolts with hot bolt paste G 052 112 A3.
• Replace gaskets and self locking nuts.
• Install the exhaust system free of stress. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING .
