Exhaust System, Installing

Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required 

• Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) VAG 1331

• Exhaust system must be aligned when cold.

-- Loosen the bolts of the front clamp -1-.

-- Position the clamp -1- so that dimension -a- at the mark on the pipe -2- is 5 mm and tighten the front bolt hand tight. -Arrow- points in direction of vehicle travel.

-- Push the exhaust system as far forward until the dimension -a- on the outer retaining loop of the front muffler is 9 to 11 mm. -Arrow- points in direction of vehicle travel.

-- Tighten the front clamp evenly in this position.

• Tightening specification: 25 Nm

Tailpipe Aligning

-- Align the rear muffler so that distance -a- between the bumper cutout and the tailpipes is equal.

At the same time, distance -b- of bumper the cutout must be parallel to the tailpipes.

-- To align the tailpipes, loosen the rear muffler mounting components if necessary.
