Side Upholstery With Side Airbag

NOTE:

Removal and installation is described for right side upholstery. The same instructions apply for removal and installation for the left side upholstery.

Removal

WARNING:

Read the Safety Instructions for working with airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units.

-- Disconnect vehicle battery. Refer to [For transmission(s) 0A4, 02E, 09G, 02Q] [For engine(s) BRM, BGP, BPY, BGQ, CBTA, CBEA, CJAA, CBUA, CCTA, CBFA] Removal and Installation

Sedan

-- Remove seat bench. Refer to SEAT BENCH .

Wagon

-- Fold the bench seat forward.

All Vehicles

-- Remove nut -1- (8 Nm).

-- Fold backrest forward.

-- If present, remove the cover cap and loosen the bolt -2- (8 Nm).

-- Pull side upholstery -5- upward out of mounts -3- and -4- in body.

WARNING:

Electrostatic discharges can lead to an unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore, mechanic must electrostatic discharge him-/herself before disconnecting harness connector. This is done, for example, by briefly touching the chassis or door striker pin.

-- Disconnect wiring harness from rear side airbag.

Installation

-- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.

-- Switch on ignition.

WARNING:

Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.

-- Connect vehicle battery. Refer to [For transmission(s) 0A4, 02E, 09G, 02Q] [For engine(s) BRM, BGP, BPY, BGQ, CBTA, CBEA, CJAA, CBUA, CCTA, CBFA] Removal and Installation .
