Knee Airbag Bracket, Rabbit From My 09

Removing

WARNING:

Read the Safety Instructions for working with airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units. Refer to AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER AND BATTERY CUT-OUT UNITS, GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

-- Switch on ignition.

-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to [For transmission(s) 0A4, 02E, 09G, 02Q] [For engine(s) BGP, BPY, BGQ, CBTA, CBUA, CCTA, CBFA] Removal and Installation

-- Remove the knee airbag (Golf from MY 2009). Refer to KNEE AIRBAG, GOLF FROM MY 09 

-- Remove side instrument panel cover on front passenger side. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL SIDE COVERS

-- Press rotary light switch toward front, rotate it toward right until it stands vertically, now pull it out and disconnect wiring harness.

-- Remove the steering column trim gap cover from the instrument panel. Refer to STEERING COLUMN TRIM . It is not necessary to remove the complete steering column trim.

-- Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to [For transmission(s) 0A4, 02E, 09G, 02Q] [For engine(s) BGP, BPY, BGQ, CBTA, CBUA, CCTA, CBFA] Removal and Installation . It is not necessary to disconnect the wiring harness.

-- Remove right trim panel on driver side. Refer to DRIVER SIDE LEFT TRIM

-- Remove the trim in the center of the instrument panel (Golf from MY 09). Refer to TRIM, INSTRUMENT PANEL, CENTER, GOLF FROM MY 09

-- Remove the trim around the A/C and heater controls (Golf from MY 09). Refer to TRIM, A/C AND HEATER CONTROLS, GOLF FROM MY 09

-- Remove the center cover (Golf from MY 09). Refer to COVER, CENTER, GOLF FROM MY 00

Vehicles with automatic transmission

-- Loosen the selector lever boot off the cover. Refer to [For transmission(s) 09G] [For engine(s) BGP, BPY, BGQ, CBTA, CBUA, CCTA] Removal and Installation[For transmission(s) 09G] [For engine(s) BGP, BGQ, CBTA, CBUA] Removing .

Vehicles with manual and DSG transmission

-- Loosen the selector lever boot off the cover. Refer to Manual transmission SHIFT KNOB, BOOT AND NOISE INSULATION , or DSG transmission SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE .

-- Remove the storage compartment or ashtray (Golf from MY 09). Refer to STORAGE COMPARTMENT/ASHTRAY, GOLF FROM MY 09 .

-- Remove the cover from the center console. It is not necessary to remove the entire center console.

-- Remove left trim panel on driver side. Refer to DRIVER SIDE RIGHT TRIM

-- Remove the footwell vents on the driver side. Refer to [For engine(s) BGP, BPY, BGQ, CBTA, CBUA, CCTA, CBFA] Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the bolt -9- (1.5 Nm) and loosen the bracket -8-.

-- Remove the bolts -3- and -4- (1.5 Nm).

-- Remove the bolts -1-, -2-, -6- and -7- and then the bracket -5-.

Installing

WARNING:

If a knee airbag bracket is being replaced, then the paint around the threaded pin and on the crossmember surfaces must be removed. This is necessary to assure the perfect ground connection.

CAUTION:

Install the bolts in this sequence: -2-, -6-, -1- and -7- to assure a correct installation.

-- Attach the knee airbag bracket with bolts -2-, -6-, -1- and -7- (9 Nm).

-- Install in reverse order of removal.
