Timing Chain Covers Overview

- Removing and installing, refer to CAMSHAFT ADJUSTMENT VALVE 1 -N205- .
- Seal
- Lubricate before installing.
- Replace if damaged.

- Tightening sequence, refer to UPPER TIMING CHAIN COVER .
- Upper Timing Chain Cover
- Removing and installing, refer to UPPER TIMING CHAIN COVER .
- Tightening sequence, refer to Fig 2.
- Gasket
- Replace if damaged.
- O-ring
- Always replace.
- Lubricate before installing.
- Alignment Sleeve
- For centering the cover.
- Lower Timing Chain Cover
- Tightening sequence, refer to Fig 3.
- Removing and installing, refer to one of the following:
- Passat and CC, refer to .
- GTI and Eos, refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER .
- Tiguan, refer to .
- Bolt
- Always replace.
- Observe the tightening sequence Fig 3.
- Shaft Seal
- For the vibration damper.
- Removing and installing, refer to VIBRATION DAMPER SHAFT SEAL .
- Sealing Plug
- Always replace.
-- Tighten the bolts in 2 passes in sequence -1 through 5- :
- Tighten the bolts by hand
- Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm
-- Tighten the bolts in 2 passes in sequence -1 through 15- :
- Tighten the bolts to 8 Nm
- Tighten the bolts an additional 45° (1/8) turn
