Right Flange Shaft And Seal

Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required

Thrust Piece 3305
Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) V.A.G 1331
Drip Tray for VAS 6100 VAS 6208
Sealing Grease for Seal G 052 128 A1

Removing

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

-- If equipped, remove the drive axle heat shield bolts -arrows- and shield from the engine.

-- Remove the right drive axle from the transmission flange shaft -A-.

-- Secure the drive axles using wire, do not damage the protective coating when doing this.

NOTE:

On some engines, the drive axle cannot be tied up so that the flange shaft can be removed.

Remove the drive axle. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Place the drip tray under the transmission.

-- Remove the flange shaft bolt. To do this, install two bolts into the flange and counter hold the flange shaft using a pry bar.

-- Remove the flange shaft and the pressure spring.

-- Pry out the shaft seal.

Installing

-- Drive in the new shaft seal until seated using the thrust Piece 3305 and without tilting it.

-- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips half way with sealing grease for Seal G 052 128 A1.

-- Install the flange shaft -A- and bolt and tighten the bolt DIFFERENTIAL to specification.

-- Install the right drive axle to the flange shaft -A-. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Install the drive axle heat shield and bolts -arrows-, if equipped. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELDS .

-- Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID, CHECKING .

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
