Battery, reconnecting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

NOTE:

After connecting the battery and switching on the ignition, the Electro-mechanical Power Steering Indicator Lamp K161 lights up continuously. Indicator lamp K161 goes out automatically when vehicle is driven a distance straight ahead at 15 to 20 kilometers per hour. This re-activates the Steering Angle Sensor G85.

First reconnect positive (+)terminal - 2 - to positive battery post. Tighten fastener to specified torque → Battery, tightening torques .

Then reconnect negative (erminal - 1 - to negative battery post. Tighten fastener to specified torque → Battery, tightening torques .
Perform work steps specified in table.

Work steps required after reconnecting battery

Work step	performed
Ignition: Switch ignition on and then off again.
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Memory: Check Guided Fault Finding using VAS 5051/5052.
Clock: Check and reset to local time.
Power windows and sunroof: Completely open and close all power windows and sunroof.
All electrical consumers: Check function.
