Input gear, adjusting
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 20 other vehicles, including the 2007 Volkswagen Golf, 2006 Volkswagen Golf, 2005 Volkswagen Jetta, 2005 Volkswagen Golf, and 2004 Volkswagen Jetta. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Special tools and equipment
- VW 382 Measuring appliance
- V.A.G 1332 Torque wrench or equivalent
- Dial indicator gauge
Work sequence
- Tighten socket head fastener to 100 Nm without dished washer and without shim.
A - Torque wrench
B - 22 mm socket
Parking lock must be engaged
- Remove socket head fastener.
- Measure distance between input gear and tapered roller bearing inner race.
- Insert dial indicator gauge and zero with a preload of 3 mm. Note reading (example 1.00 mm).
Thickness of dished washer 1.50 mm must be added to reading of = 2.50 mm.
Determining shim
The specified bearing preload is achieved if the bearing preload of 0.18 mm is subtracted from the figure obtained from the measurement (dished washer + reading) of 2.50 mm.
Example
| Dished washer + reading | 2.50 mm |
| - Bearing preload | 0.18 mm |
| = Thickness of shim | 2.32 mm |
- Determine shim on basis of table and fit onto drive shaft. Table of shims. Refer to Table of shims for drive pinion and input gear .
- Insert axial needle bearing and tighten socket head fastener including dished washer to 250 Nm.
NOTE:
Insert axial needle bearing for input shaft before tightening socket head fastener. Installed position. Refer to Removing and installing input gear,
Input gear, removing and installing
