Work sequence

• Connect tester VAS 5051 using diagnostic cable VAS 5051/1 or VAS 5051/3 as follows:
• Remove ashtray and slide cover for Data Link Connector (DLC) to left -arrow-.
• Connect diagnostic cable connector on to DLC.

• Depending upon desired function:

  Switch ignition on

  or

  Start engine. See FUNCTIONS WHICH CAN BE SELECTED WHEN USING THE SCAN TOOLS VAG 1551/1552 OR VAS 5051 , Table "Selectable functions".

Select operating mode: 

• Press button on display for "Vehicle On Board Diagnostic" -arrow-.

Select vehicle system: 

• Press keys "01 - Engine Electronics" on display -arrow-.

On the display the control module identification and coding are displayed. For example, see Fig 4.

If the coding differs from the vehicle version, then:

• Checking control module coding. See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM), CODING (SCAN TOOL FUNCTION 07)
