Engine code letters: AAA: Requirements:

- VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) connected
- Connect VAG 1363A CO tester, with VAG 1363/3 adapter to CO tap tube next to the throttle valve body (where applicable).
- Start engine and run at idle.
On VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST):
- Press button -1- for "Rapid data transfer" mode.
- Press buttons -0- and -1- to enter address word 01 for "Engine Electronics" and press -Q- button to confirm input.
- Press --> button.
- Press buttons -0- and -4- to select "Basic setting" function 04, and press -Q- button to confirm input.
Press button -0- twice to enter display group number 00, and press -Q- button to confirm input

Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve (N80) is closed in the "Basic Setting" function.
Continue with the test only after engine temperature is above 80 °C (display field 2).
- Briefly increase engine speed (blip throttle), and then run engine at idle speed for 2 minutes.
- Note displayed figures for engine speed and ignition timing
Display field 1 = engine speed
Display field 4 = ignition timing
- Test CO content on CO tester (if deviation exists, perform repair measure).
- If actual values differ from the specifications, make the necessary repairs.NOTE: Idle speed and CO content cannot be adjusted. If deviation from specification exists, make the necessary repairs.

On VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST):
- Press --> button.
- Press buttons -0- and -6- to select "End Output" function 06, and press -Q- button to confirm input.
- Test operation of three way catalytic converter, refer to THREE WAY CATALYTIC CONVERTER (TWC) .
- Refer to notes on THREE WAY CATALYTIC CONVERTER (TWC) after completing emission and idling test.
