Radio application and installation, warning: Notes
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 27 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
A Sound System radios have On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capabilities, they are connected to the vehicle's OBD Data Link Connector (DLC) data bus (K wire) in conjunction with all other vehicle Electronic Control Modules with OBD capabilities.
Deluxe and Premium radios do NOT have OBD capabilities. However, Deluxe, Premium and Sound System radios all have a similar rear connector configuration.
CAUTION:
On vehicles wired for and equipped with Sound System radios, multi-pin connector III, -T8- terminal 3 must NOT be connected to a power or ground source (for example, while installing VW Deluxe and Premium radios or aftermarket radios, additional sound system components and related wiring that is not Factory approved).
The VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool and any other Electronic Control Modules with OBD capabilities installed in the vehicle will be damaged and will malfunction as a result.
DO NOT install a Deluxe, Premium or aftermarket radio in place of a Sound System radio without modifying the vehicle radio harness, refer to RADIO HARNESS CONNECTOR III, DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) MODIFICATION .
