Shim thickness, determining

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 25 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The thickness of the shim(s) is determined by gap "x". See Fig 1. Use the following formula:

Gap x = a - b - 3.2 mm

Measuring points are shown in illustration to help understand formula. Special tool 3459, which exerts a force -F- onto plate packet via retaining ring, is not illustrated.

Dimension a, determining: see CALCULATING DIMENSION "A": .

Dimension b, determining: see DIMENSION "B", CALCULATING : .

2.65 mm - Amount for settling is taken into account by force F.

  1. - ATF pump
  2. - Retaining ring
  3. - Plates for -B2- without last outer plate
