Test requirements

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 27 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

All ignition keys available. If there are no ignition keys available, see "Procedure for lost key". See LOST KEY PROCEDURE .
Secret number available, if not, see "Determining secret number". See LOST KEY PROCEDURE .

Insert mechanically appropriate ignition key into ignition lock.
Connect VAG1551 Scan Tool (ST), switch on ignition, select operating mode 1 "Rapid data transfer" and enter address word 25 for "immobilizer".

After control module identification is displayed:

Press --> button.

Press button -1- twice to select "Login Procedure", function 11.

Input the secret number, place a -0- before the 4 digit number (e.g. 01915).
Press -Q- button to confirm input.

NOTE: If indicated briefly on display:

Secret number is not being accepted. Repeat input.
3 attempts at entering the secret number correctly are possible immediately. The next 3 attempts are not permitted for at least 10 minutes. During this time, the ignition must remain constantly switched on. On Board Diagnostic (OBD) must be also exited using the "End Output" function 06.
The waiting period between each of the next 3 attempts doubles up to the maximum time of 255 minutes.

Press buttons -1- and -0- to select "Adaptation", function 10.

The adaptation value stored in the immobilizer control module for number of keys will be displayed in the top line.

The lower line will indicate the number of ignition keys currently adapted.

Press --> button.

Press the -0- button four times and then the total number of keys to be adapted, including any keys that are present (e.g. 00003), max. 8 keys possible.
Press -Q- button to confirm input.

Indicated on display for 3 keys to be adapted:

Press buttons -0- and -6- to select "End Output" function 6.

NOTE: The "End Output" function only ends the storage procedure in the control module for anti -theft immobilizer -J362- but not the adaptation of ignition keys.

Insert the next ignition key into ignition lock and switch on ignition for at least 1 second.
Repeat procedure until all keys have been adapted.

NOTE:

The adaptation of ignition keys is automatically terminated after 60 seconds; time is not counted when ignition is switched off.
All ignition keys adapted before termination remain valid.
Following termination, it is not possible to re - adapt all ignition keys unless the "Login procedure" function is called up again.
All ignition keys, including keys that were adapted before termination, must be re-adapted.

Select "Check DTC memory", function 02. If there are no DTC's stored, then key adaptation was completed successfully.
