Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) table

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 27 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

NOTE:

The following table lists all DTCs, with corresponding 5 digit code numbers, that can be recognized by the Immobilizer Control Module -J362- and printed out by VAG 1551 ST.
DTC codes appear only on print-out.
Before replacing a component shown as malfunctioning, check wiring and connections to the component as well as Ground (GND) connections according to wiring diagram.
Verify connectors on relay plate are correctly located and locked-in.
When repair has been completed, DTC memory must be checked again with Scan Tool VAG 1551 and erased.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) - NO DTC RECOGNIZED

	Implausible signal	No signal or implausible signal on "W" wire between Immobilizer Control Module and engine control module or fuel cut-off valve control module.	-Check wire for open or short circuit.
		Immobilizer Control Module Baud rate (data transfer speed) is incorrect.	-Code control module and enter correct Baud rate See CODING CONTROL MODULE
		Malfunctioning operation: After engine has stopped, ignition is switched on again immediately (engine is still in the run-on phase).	-Switch off ignition, wait at least 10 seconds, switch on ignition and again select function 02 "Check DTC memory". See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) MEMORY, CHECKING .
		Immobilizer Control Module -J362- inoperative.	Erase DTC memory and check again. See ERASING DTC MEMORY and DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) MEMORY, CHECKING If necessary replace Immobilizer Control Module -J362-.

	Signal too low	Reading coil or wire inoperative (transfer resistance/loose contact).	-Check reading coil with wire and connector (visual check), if necessary replace reading coil.
		Ignition key electronics (Transponder) missing or not functioning.	-Replace ignition key and adapt (code) all ignition keys and check function. See IGNITION KEYS, MATCHING (ADAPTATION) .
Not authorized		Mechanically correct ignition key not matched.	-Adapt all ignition keys. See IGNITION KEYS, MATCHING (ADAPTATION) .

Initial adaptation: only 2 keys learned		Ignition has been switched on with an ignition key for a third time longer than 1 second during initial adaptation. Only two ignition keys can be adapted (matched) during initial adaptation.	Erase DTC memory and check again. See ERASING DTC MEMORY and DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) MEMORY, CHECKING .

			Fuel cut-off valve clicks audibly. Replace fuel cut-off valve control module.
