Test sequence (vehicles with engine code AFP)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 14 other vehicles, including the 2005 Volkswagen GTI, 2004 Volkswagen R32, 2004 Volkswagen Jetta, 2004 Volkswagen GTI, and 2003 Volkswagen Jetta. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Do not use pressurized air for the following test!
- Remove front noise insulation.
- Disconnect vacuum hose from combination valve at Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Solenoid Valve -N112-. Refer to Parts of Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system (vehicles with engine code AFP), removing and installing , item 5
- Connect hand vacuum pump (V.A.G 1390) at vacuum connection to combination valve.
- Disconnect intake hose to combination valve at air filter upper section (arrow) and blow into it with light pressure.
Combination valve must close.
NOTE:
To disengage, compress the buttons at the hose coupling.
- Operate vacuum pump.
Combination valve must open.
If the combination valve does not open or it is constantly open:
- Replace combination valve. Refer to Parts of Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system (vehicles with engine code AFP), removing and installing , item 1
- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM). Refer to Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data
- Generate readiness code. Refer to Readiness code, generating
