Modified clutch housing from transmission number (production date) 13 09 3

When replacing the transmission or the clutch housing:

For engines up to approx. September 1993 production, the casting for the additional mounting hole may interfere with the hold-down clamp (arrow) for the ignition distributor on gasoline engines or the vacuum pump on Diesel engines.

The hold-down clamp has been modified from approx. September 1993 production.

Identification:

  1. - Hold-down with extension (arrow): up to September 1993
  2. - Shortened hold-down clamp: from September 1993

When installing a transmission with the modified clutch housing on an engine with the older style hold -down clamp:

CAUTION: Cover the transmission input shaft oil seal before sawing.

NOTE:
  • Clean the hub splines of the transmission input shaft and apply a light coat of G 000 100 grease to the splines.
  • When installing the transmission, make sure the intermediate plate is positioned correctly.
  • Check whether the dowel sleeves for aligning the engine with the transmission are installed in the engine block, and install where necessary.
  • Check the gear oil level. For specifications, see CODE LETTERS, ENGINE/TRANSMISSION APPLICATIONS, RATIOS, CAPACITIES .
  • Check the operation of the clutch cable automatic adjustment mechanism, see CLUTCH CABLE ADJUSTING MECHANISM, CHECKING FUNCTION AND REPAIRING .
  • Adjust the shift linkage, see SHIFT LINKAGE, ADJUSTING .
  • If the clutch housing has been replaced, or if the entire transmission is being replaced Modified clutch housing from transmission number (production date) 13 09 3, see INSTALLING .
