Rear Brake Caliper Removal And Installation/Replacement

Some aftermarket brake pads contain asbestos fibers, which can turn into dust in the air.

Avoid inhaling brake dust.
Avoid grinding or dry brushing of brake pads.

Avoid swallowing or inhaling

NOTE: Damage due to leaked brake fluid.
Brake fluid is corrosive and can cause damage to electrical components, electrical cables and wiring as well as to plastic components and painted surfaces.

Protect vehicle parts and components to avoid contact with brake fluid.
Mask off painted surfaces in an appropriate way to prevent damage to the paintwork.
Use rags and suitable containers to prevent that leaking brake fluid comes into contact with vehicle parts.
If brake fluid comes into contact with plastic components or painted surfaces flush the area immediately with water.

Removal Procedure:

The procedure for the left-hand component is identical to that for the right-hand side.

Connect the diagnostic scan tool and select RCU special function enter maintenance mode. Refer to DIAGNOSTICS, PROGRAMMING AND SETUP USING IDS IN SERVICE
When RCU maintenance mode is active, there should be a warning on the radio display to say, Electric Park Braks Fault.
Remove the rear wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Remove bolt (1).
Torque: 35 Nm
Remove the banjo bolt (1) and 2 sealing gaskets (2) from the rear brake hose
Installation note: Discard the 2 gaskets (2).
NOTE:
Environmental Risk
- Collect and dispose of leaking liquids.
- Observe country-specific disposal regulations.
Hang out the brake hose (1) at marking (2).
Unlock and disconnect the electrical connector (1).

Remove 2 bolts (1).
Torque: 121 Nm

Remove the brake caliper (1) in the direction of the arrow.

Installation Procedure:

Installation is the reverse of removal procedure, noting the following.
All fasteners must be tightened to torque specification!
If fitting a new caliper, it is recommended to install new brake pads to prevent any noise concerns.
Pads must be replaced as an axle set, left and right sides to ensure uniform braking.
Bleed the Hydraulic Brake System. Refer to HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM BLEEDING (PRESSURE)
Install the rear wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
With the vehicle OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance. Slowly release the brake pedal.
Wait 15 seconds, then gradually apply the brake pedal approximately 2/3 of its travel distance again until a firm brake pedal apply is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
Check the brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir and adjust as required.
Connect the diagnostic scan tool and select RCU special function.
Exit maintenance mode, then confirm no park brake fault warnings present on radio display and no RCU DTC's active.
