Removal [02/2024 - ]: Procedure

  1. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  2. SECURE STEERING WHEEL

      1. Secure the steering wheel with the seat belt in order to prevent rotation.

        HINT: 

        This operation is useful to prevent damage to the spiral cable.

  3. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [02/2024 - ]

  4. DISCONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY

      *a Matchmark - -
      Slide - -
      1. Remove the bolt.
      2. Slide the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly and put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly and the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly.
      3. Disconnect the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly from the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly.
  5. DISCONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

      *a Center Nut *b SST (Spacer C)
      *c 1 mm (0.0394 in.) *d Molybdenum grease application area
      *e String *f Place wrench here
      1. Remove the clip and nut.
      2. Install 2 spacers (SST spacer C) to the steering knuckle LH as shown in the illustration.
        • SST: 09961-02080 
        NOTE:

        Make sure that the clearance between the tie rod end sub-assembly LH and spacers (SST spacer C) is 1 mm (0.0394 in.) or more to prevent damage to SST.

      3. Using SST, disconnect the tie rod end sub-assembly LH from the steering knuckle LH.
        • SST: 09960-20010 
          1. 09961-02010
        WARNING:

        Apply molybdenum grease to the bolt threads and the tip of SST.

        NOTE:
        • Be sure to tighten the string firmly to secure SST to the steering knuckle to prevent SST from falling off.
        • Install SST so that (A) and (B) shown in the illustration are parallel. Otherwise, the ball joint dust cover may be damaged.
        • Be sure to place the wrench on the part shown in the illustration.
        • Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.
        • Do not damage the steering knuckle.
        • Do not damage the front disc brake dust cover.
  6. DISCONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.
  7. REMOVE FRONT BOUND STOPPER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

  8. REMOVE FRONT BOUND STOPPER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.
  9. REMOVE RACK AND PINION POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY

      1. Remove the 2 bolts.
      2. Disconnect the connector, and then disconnect the No. 5 engine room wire from the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly.

        HINT: 

        Disconnect the connector with the lock lever by pulling out the lock and moving the lock lever as shown in the illustration.

      Remove in this Direction (1) Remove in this Direction (2)
      1. Remove the 3 bolts, 3 nuts and 3 washers, and then remove the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly from the front frame assembly.
      2. Pull the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly out of the vehicle in the order shown in the illustration.
  10. REMOVE POWER STEERING SENSOR WIRE
