Neutral Position Switch Circuit [01/2019 - 09/2022]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.

      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Neutral Position SW Signal Neutral position switch status ON or OFF ON: Shift lever in neutral
      OFF: Shift lever is in any position other than neutral
      -

      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Neutral Position SW Signal

      OK

      The value of the Data List item changes in accordance with the operation of the shift lever.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [01/2019 - 09/2022]

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the C77 ECM connector.
    2. Disconnect the C63 neutral position switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C63-1 (W1) - C77-110 (VCNP) Always Below 1 Ω
      C63-2 (TMN) - C77-79 (NPSW) Always Below 1 Ω
      C63-3 (F+) - C77-109 (ENPS) Always Below 1 Ω
      C63-1 (W1) or C77-110 (VCNP) - Other terminals and body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C63-2 (TMN) or C77-79 (NPSW) - Other terminals and body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C63-3 (F+) or C77-109 (ENPS) - Other terminals and body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK ECM 
    1. Connect the C77 ECM connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      (to Neutral Position Switch)

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C63-1 (W1) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 5.5 V
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C63-1 (W1) - C63-2 (TMN) Always 995 to 1005 Ω
      C63-3 (F+) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH. Refer to  COMPONENTS [01/2019 - 11/2022]

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  COMPONENTS [01/2019 - 11/2022]
