Lack of Power or Hesitation [01/2019 - 11/2022]: Procedure

  1. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output A
      DTCs are output B

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [01/2019 - 03/2019]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [03/2019 - 04/2020]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [04/2020 - 09/2022]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [09/2022 - 11/2022]

  2. PERFORM BASIC FUNCTION 
    1. Check the air cleaner filter element sub-assembly.

      HINT: 

      If the air cleaner filter element sub-assembly is dirty, clean or replace it.

    2. Check if there are any clogs in the intake or exhaust system.
    3. Check the ignition timing.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

    4. Check the fuel pressure.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [01/2019 - 09/2022] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [09/2022 - 11/2022]

    5. Check the spark.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

    6. Measure the cylinder compression pressure.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after repairing or replacing the intake system, exhaust system, ignition system or engine assembly.

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / AFS Voltage B1S1, O2S B1S2, Short FT B1S1 and Long FT B1S1.

      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Data List 

      Tester Display
      AFS Voltage B1S1
      O2S B1S2
      Short FT B1S1
      Long FT B1S1
    5. Read the value while driving the vehicle.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No abnormal values in Data List A
      Abnormal values in Data List B

  4. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE VVT SYSTEM (BANK 1)) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT System (Bank1) / Data List / VVT Change Angle #1.

      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test 

      Active Test Display
      Control the VVT System (Bank1)
      Data List Display
      VVT Change Angle #1
    5. Perform the Active Test. Check that the displacement angle varies.

    CHECK VVT SYSTEM. Refer to  DTC P0016: Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A); DTC P0017: Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor B) [01/2019 - 03/2019]  , or refer to  DTC P0016: Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A); DTC P0017: Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor B) [03/2019 - 11/2022]

  5. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE THE VALVEMATIC (ENG ON)) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature stabilizes. (Engine coolant temperature 40°C or higher)
    3. Turn the ignition switch off.
    4. Restart the engine.

      HINT: 

      Do not operate the accelerator pedal.

    5. Turn the Techstream on.
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Activate the VALVEMATIC (ENG ON) / Data List / MAP, Coolant Temp, VALVEMATIC Target Angle, VALVEMATIC Current Angle, VALVEMATIC bef Warm Up.

      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test

    7. Check the Data List "VALVEMATIC bef Warm Up" display is "ON".

      HINT: 

      If "VALVEMATIC bef Warm Up" is not "ON".

      • Restart the engine. (Do not operate the accelerator pedal.)
      • Perform the Active Test "Activate the VALVEMATIC before Warm Up" to set "VALVEMATIC bef Warm Up" to "ON". (Do not operate the accelerator pedal.)
    8. Set the Active Test "Activate the VALVEMATIC (ENG ON)" to "High" and check that "VALVEMATIC Current Angle" follows "VALVEMATIC Target Angle" and the "MAP" value changes.

      MAP: 25 to 40 kPa (3.6 to 5.8 psi)
    9. Set the Active Test "Activate the VALVEMATIC (ENG ON)" to "OFF", and check that "VALVEMATIC bef Warm Up" returns to "ON".
    10. Set the Active Test "Activate the VALVEMATIC (ENG ON)" to "Low" and check that "VALVEMATIC Current Angle" follows "VALVEMATIC Target Angle" and the "MAP" value changes.

      Standard

      Low VALVEMATIC Current Angle: 106 deg (CA)
      MAP: 35 to 65 kPa (5.1 to 9.4 psi)

      When performing the Active Test, "VALVEMATIC Current Angle" follows "VALVEMATIC Target Angle" and the "MAP" value changes.

      HINT: 

      • After the accelerator pedal is depressed and the Active Test operates once to "Low", "VALVEMATIC bef Warm Up" does not return to "ON". Therefore, in order to repeat the inspection, it is necessary to either perform the Active Test "Activate the VALVEMATIC before Warm Up" to set the VALVEMATIC system to the operating position that occurs before the engine is warmed up, or restart the engine.
      • When the vehicle is driven while there is a malfunction in the VALVEMATIC system and the valve lift amount is fixed at the minimum, the vehicle speed cannot exceed 30 to 60 km/h (19 to 37 mph).
      • If the intake valve advance angle is within the VALVEMATIC operation prohibition range depending on the operating state of the VVT system, the Active Test "Activate the VALVEMATIC (ENG ON)" is prohibited. If the advance angle cannot be detected due to a malfunction in the VVT system, the Active Test "Activate the VALVEMATIC (ENG ON)" is prohibited.
