Replacement [09/2021 - ]: Procedure

Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8 [09/2021 - 11/2022] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8 [11/2022 - 11/2023] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8 [11/2023 - ]

1. Stop the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Using a 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and 10 x 12 mm long offset wrench, remove the transfer filler plug and gasket.

3. Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the transfer drain plug and gasket and drain the transfer oil.

4. Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, install a new gasket and the transfer drain plug.

   Torque: 39 N.m (398 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbf) 

1. Add transfer oil.

   Standard oil type and viscosity

   Toyota Genuine Differential Gear Oil LT 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent

   Standard oil capacity

   0.45 liters (0.47 US qts, 0.39 Imp. qts)

2. Pour oil so that the oil level is between 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.197 in.) from the bottom lip of the transfer filler plug hole.

   *a	0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.197 in.)

   NOTE:

   • When adding oil, pour it slowly.
   • Add oil a little at a time, waiting several minutes between each addition of oil.
   • Too much or too little oil will lead to transfer problems.
3. Wait approximately 5 minutes and check that the oil level has not changed.
4. Using SST, 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and 10 mm union nut wrench, install a new gasket and the transfer filler plug.

   *b	10 mm Union Nut Wrench
   *c	Torque Wrench Fulcrum Length

   • SST: 09961-00950 

   Specified tightening torque 

   Torque: 39 N.m (398 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbf) 

   HINT: 

   • Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

     Refer to PRECAUTION [09/2021 - 11/2022] , or refer to PRECAUTION [11/2022 - ]

   • When using a union nut wrench (fulcrum length of 22 mm (0.866 in.)) + SST (fulcrum length of 150 mm (5.906 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 180 mm (7.087 in.)): 19.9 N.m (203 kgf/cm, 15 ft.lbf)
5. Drive the vehicle and check the oil level again. If necessary, add transfer oil.

1. Make sure that there are no transfer oil leaks from the area that was worked on.
