Shift Paddle Switch Circuit [11/2018 - 08/2020]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (SPORTS SHIFT UP SIGNAL, SPORTS SHIFT DOWN SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Sports Shift UP Signal, Sports Shift DOWN Signal.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Sports Shift UP Signal
      Sports Shift DOWN Signal
    4. Read the values displayed on the Techstream.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition
      Sports Shift UP Signal Sport shift up switch status ON or OFF Shift paddle switch RH (+) operated: ON
      Shift paddle switch RH (+) not operated: OFF
      Sports Shift DOWN Signal Sport shift down switch status ON or OFF Shift paddle switch LH (-) operated: ON
      Shift paddle switch LH (-) not operated: OFF

      Result

      The Techstream display changes according to the shift paddle switch (transmission shift switch assembly) operation. A

    5. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [11/2018 - 08/2020]

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHIFT PADDLE SWITCH CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the A30 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the G23 transmission control switch (shift lock control unit assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift paddle switch (transmission shift switch assembly) is moved to each position.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A30-24 (SFTU) - Body ground Shift paddle switch RH (+) operated Below 2.5 Ω
      A30-11 (SFTD) - Body ground Shift paddle switch LH (-) operated Below 2.5 Ω
      A30-24 (SFTU) - Body ground Shift paddle switch RH (+) not operated 1 MΩ or higher
      A30-11 (SFTD) - Body ground Shift paddle switch LH (-) not operated 1 MΩ or higher

    4. Reconnect the G23 transmission control switch (shift lock control unit assembly) connector.
    5. Reconnect the A30 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.

      Result

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - 02/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [02/2019 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2019 - 08/2020] 

    Result: 

    NG

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the G20 spiral cable sub-assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G20-2 (ECC) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
    3. Reconnect the G20 spiral cable sub-assembly connector.

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the A30 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the G20 spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A30-24 (SFTU) - G20-8 (SUP) Always Below 1 Ω
      A30-11 (SFTD) - G20-1 (SDN) Always Below 1 Ω
      A30-24 (SFTU) or G20-8 (SUP) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A30-11 (SFTD) or G20-1 (SDN) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Reconnect the G20 spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly connector.
    5. Reconnect the A30 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  5. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the spiral cable sub-assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [11/2018 - 08/2020]

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - 02/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [02/2019 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2019 - 08/2020] 

    Result: 

    OK

  6. INSPECT SHIFT PADDLE SWITCH LH (NO. 1 TRANSMISSION SHIFT SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Inspect the shift paddle switch LH (No. 1 transmission shift switch assembly).

      Refer to INSPECTION [11/2018 - 08/2020]

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE SHIFT PADDLE SWITCH LH (NO. 1 TRANSMISSION SHIFT SWITCH ASSEMBLY). Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - 02/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [02/2019 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2019 - 08/2020] 

    Result: 

    OK

  7. INSPECT SHIFT PADDLE SWITCH RH (NO. 2 TRANSMISSION SHIFT SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Inspect the shift paddle switch RH (No. 2 transmission shift switch assembly).

      Refer to INSPECTION [11/2018 - 08/2020]

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE SHIFT PADDLE SWITCH RH (NO. 2 TRANSMISSION SHIFT SWITCH ASSEMBLY). Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - 02/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [02/2019 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2019 - 08/2020] 

    Result: 

    OK

  8. INSPECT NO. 1 SWITCH WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the z5 No. 1 switch wire connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      z5-2 (SUP) - z5-3 (ECC) "+" (Up shift) shift paddle switch operated and held Below 2.5 Ω
      "+" (Up shift) shift paddle switch not operated 1 MΩ or higher
      z5-4 (SDN) - z5-3 (ECC) "-" (Down shift) shift paddle switch operated and held Below 2.5 Ω
      "-" (Down shift) shift paddle switch not operated 1 MΩ or higher

    3. Reconnect the z5 No. 1 switch wire connector.

      Result

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [11/2018 - 08/2020]

    REPLACE NO. 1 SWITCH WIRE. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 4 [11/2018 - 02/2019]  , or refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 4 [02/2019 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 4 [10/2019 - 08/2020]
