DTC P0914-12: Gear Shift Position Circuit Short to Battery [06/2018 - 09/2022]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT TCM (VDD VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the C73 shift stroke sensor connector.

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Shift Stroke Sensor)
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C73-2 (VDD) - C73-3 (GND) Engine switch on (IG) 4.7 to 5.3 V
    4. Connect the C73 shift stroke sensor connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHIFT STROKE SENSOR - TCM) 
    1. Disconnect the C73 shift stroke sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the C80 TCM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C73-4 (VOUT) or C80-46 (SFV) - Other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Connect the C80 TCM connector.
    5. Connect the C73 shift stroke sensor connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. INSPECT SHIFT STROKE SENSOR 
    1. Connect 3 new dry-cell batteries (1.5 V each) in series.
    2. Prepare a magnet or equivalent tool.
    3. Remove the shift stroke sensor.

      Refer to REMOVAL [06/2018 - 01/2019] , or refer to REMOVAL [01/2019 - 09/2022]

    4. Connect a positive (+) lead from the batteries to terminal 2 (VDD) and a negative (-) lead to terminal 3 (GND).

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Shift Stroke Sensor)
      *b Magnet Movement Direction
      *c Dry Cell Battery *d Magnet
      *e 2.6 mm or less - -
    5. Wave the magnet left and right 2.6 mm (0.102 in.) or less from the tip of the shift stroke sensor to output a high/low signal while measuring the voltage.
    6. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage (Combined Dry-cell Battery Voltage of 4.5 V)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      4 (VOUT) - 3 (GND) High signal 4.09 to 4.19 V
      Low signal 0.36 to 0.45 V

      Reference Voltage (Combined Dry-cell Battery Voltage of 5.0 V)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      4 (VOUT) - 3 (GND) High signal 4.55 to 4.65 V
      Low signal 0.4 to 0.5 V
    7. Install the shift stroke sensor.

      Refer to INSTALLATION [06/2018 - 01/2019] , or refer to INSTALLATION [01/2019 - 09/2022]

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE SHIFT STROKE SENSOR 

    Refer to COMPONENTS [06/2018 - 09/2022]

    Result: 

    OK

  4. REPLACE TCM 
    1. Replace the TCM.

      Refer to COMPONENTS [06/2018 - 01/2019] , or refer to COMPONENTS [01/2019 - 03/2019] , or refer to COMPONENTS [03/2019 - 09/2024]

    Result:

    PERFORM REGISTRATION AND INITIALIZATION 

    for Registration: Refer to REGISTRATION [06/2018 - 09/2024]

    for Initialization: Refer to INITIALIZATION [06/2018 - 09/2022]

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHIFT STROKE SENSOR - TCM) 
    1. Disconnect the C73 shift stroke sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the C80 TCM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C73-2 (VDD) or C80-45 (VCSF) - Other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Connect the C80 TCM connector.
    5. Connect the C73 shift stroke sensor connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  6. REPLACE TCM 
    1. Replace the TCM.

      Refer to COMPONENTS [06/2018 - 01/2019] , or refer to COMPONENTS [01/2019 - 03/2019] , or refer to COMPONENTS [03/2019 - 09/2024]
