  1. CHECK FOR ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P219A, P219B, P219C, P219D, P219E, P219F, P21A0, P21A1, P21A2 and/or P21A3 are output A
      DTC P219A, P219B, P219C, P219D, P219E, P219F, P21A0, P21A1, P21A2 and/or P21A3 and other DTCs are output B

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than DTC P219A, P219B, P219C, P219D, P219E, P219F, P21A0, P21A1, P21A2 and/or P21A3 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FREEZE FRAME DATA) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Using the Techstream, confirm the vehicle conditions recorded in the freeze frame data which were present when the DTC was stored (Refer to FREEZE FRAME DATA [08/2017 - 08/2018] ).

      Freeze Frame Data Items for DTC P219A, P219B, P219C, P219D, P219E, P219F, P21A0, P21A1, P21A2 or P21A3 

      • Vehicle Speed
      • Engine Speed
      • Calculate Load
      • Accelerator Idle Position
      • Short FT B1S1 or B2S1
      • Long FT B1S1 or B2S1
      • Cylinder #1 Misfire Count to Cylinder #8 Misfire Count

      HINT: 

      When the sum of Short FT and Long FT is positive, the engine is running lean, and when the sum is negative, the engine is running rich.

      Air Fuel Ratio Sensor Monitoring Method (P219A and P219B) Crankshaft Position Sensor Monitoring Method (P219C, P219D, P219E, P219F, P21A0, P21A1, P21A2 and P21A3) Note
      DTCs are output DTC is output (Only one DTC relating to a single cylinder is output) Malfunction of cylinders detected by the Crankshaft Position Sensor Monitoring Method is primarily suspected.

      *1: When any air-fuel ratio imbalance is detected, the ECM will perform air-fuel ratio feedback control to make the air-fuel ratio close to the stoichiometric level. This may result in an air-fuel ratio imbalance of normal cylinders and DTCs may be stored.

  3. READ VALUE USING DTC OUTPUT 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in Confirmation Driving Pattern.

      HINT: 

      • If any misfire count ("Cylinder #1 Misfire Count" to "Cylinder #8 Misfire Count) increases while idling or driving the vehicle, proceed to step 6.
      • Perform inspections while focusing on the cylinder whose misfire count has increased.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
      RESULT

      DTC P219A or P219B is output A
      DTC P219A, P219B, P219C, P219D, P219E, P219F, P21A0, P21A1, P21A2 or P21A3 are output B

  4. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE INJECTION VOLUME) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Warm up the engine.

      HINT: 

      The A/C switch and all accessory switches should be off and the shift lever should be in P or N.

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the Injection Volume / Data List / Cylinder #1 to #8 Misfire Count.

      HINT: 

      When the "Control the Injection Volume" Active Test is selected (injection volume is 0%), if a misfire count increases, proceed to step 6 (Check Air Induction System).

    6. Perform the Control the Injection Volume operation with the engine idling.
    7. Check the misfire counts ("Cylinder #1 Misfire Count" to "Cylinder #8 Misfire Count") while decreasing the injection volume in 5% increments.
      NOTE:

      Do not decrease the injection volume by more than 20%.

      Result

      The cylinder whose misfire count has not increased can be assumed to be running rich. Therefore, perform inspections while focusing on that cylinder.

  5. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK 
    1. Check for exhaust gas leaks.

      OK

      No gas leaks.

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after repairing or replacing the exhaust system (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2017 - 08/2018] ).

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE EXHAUST SYSTEM 

    Result: 

    OK

  6. CHECK AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM 
    1. Check the air induction system for vacuum leakage (Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4 ).

      OK

      No leakage in air induction system.

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after repairing or replacing the air induction system (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2017 - 08/2018] ).

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM 

    Result: 

    OK

  7. INSPECT SPARK PLUG 
    1. Inspect the spark plug of the cylinder causing the imbalance (Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [08/2015 - 08/2018] ).

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the spark plug (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2017 - 08/2018] ).

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE SPARK PLUG 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2018] )

    Result: 

    OK

  8. CHECK FOR SPARKS AND IGNITION 
    1. Perform a spark test (Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [08/2015 - 08/2018] ).

      HINT: 

      • If the result of the spark test is normal, proceed to the next step.
      • Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the spark plug or ignition coil assembly (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2017 - 08/2018] ).

    Result:

  9. CHECK CYLINDER COMPRESSION PRESSURE 
    1. Measure the cylinder compression pressure of the misfiring cylinder (Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10 ).

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after repairing or replacing the engine assembly (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2017 - 08/2018] ).

    Result: 

    NG 

    CHECK ENGINE TO DETERMINE CAUSE OF LOW COMPRESSION 

    Result: 

    OK

  10. CHECK FUEL INJECTOR ASSEMBLY OF CYLINDER CAUSING IMBALANCE 
    1. Check the fuel injector injection [whether fuel volume is high or low, and whether injection pattern is poor] (Refer to INSPECTION [08/2015 - 08/2018] ).

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the fuel injector assembly (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2017 - 08/2018] ).

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE FUEL INJECTOR ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2018] )

    Result: 

    OK

  11. CHECK FOR CAUSE OF FAILURE 
    1. If the cause of the problem has not been found even after performing the troubleshooting procedure, perform the inspection below.
    2. Check the intake valve for deposits.

      HINT: 

      As the DTC may have been stored due to deposits on the intake valve, remove the cylinder head and check the intake valve.

    Result:

  12. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2018] ).
    5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    7. Turn the Techstream on.
    8. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
    10. Check for DTCs.

      Result

      P219A, P219B, P219C, P219D, P219E, P219F, P21A0, P21A1, P21A2 and/or P21A3 is not output.

    Result:
