DTC P1C86-79: Transmission (Input) Mechanical Linkage Failure [11/2015 -]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check for DTCs.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      P1C86-79 only is output, or DTCs except the ones in the table below are also output. A
      Any of the following DTCs including pending DTCs are also output. B
      Malfunction Content Relevant DTC
      Sensor and actuator circuit malfunction P1C87-79 Generator Mechanical Linkage Failure
      P1C88-79 Planetary Gear Mechanical Linkage Failure

      HINT: 

      P1C86-79 may be output as a result of the malfunction indicated by the DTCs above.

    5. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    B 

    GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM). Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [11/2015 - 11/2017]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [11/2017 - 12/2018]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [12/2018 - 08/2019]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2019 - 06/2021]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [06/2021 -] 

    Result: 

    A

  2. CHECK CRANKSHAFT PULLEY REVOLUTION (P POSITION) 
    1. Push the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).
    2. Lift up the vehicle.
    3. Turn the crankshaft pulley using hand tools to check if the crankshaft can rotate smoothly.
      WARNING:

      Do not turn the power switch on (READY) while performing this inspection. Be sure to turn the power switch off before performing this inspection, to prevent the engine from starting.

      NOTE:

      Engine compression causes resistance when turning the crankshaft pulley. Check if the crankshaft rotates smoothly (or if it is locked) by manually applying sufficient torque to turn the crankshaft pulley. The torque required to turn the crankshaft pulley should be the same as for a known good vehicle of the same type.

      OK

      The crankshaft rotates smoothly.

    4. Lower the vehicle.

      Result

      Proceed to

  3. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Clear DTCs 

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    6. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    7. Turn the power switch off and wait for 2 minutes or more.

      Result

      Proceed to

  4. CHECK ENGINE RACING 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Engine Speed, Generator Revolution.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Engine Speed
      Generator Revolution
    4. Read the Data List.
      1. While the READY indicator is on, depress the accelerator pedal for 10 seconds.

        OK

        "Generator Revolution" is approximately 3.6 times "Engine Speed".

        HINT: 

        • If the engine does not race and DTC P3147-79 (Transmission system) is output or generator (MG1) operates but the engine does not crank, replace the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.
        • Refer to the graph for Data List confirmation of "Generator Revolution" and "Engine Speed".

    5. Turn the power switch off.

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2015 - 12/2018]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [12/2018 - 07/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [07/2020 -] 

    Result: 

    OK

  5. CHECK CREEP MOVEMENT 
    1. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    2. Depress the brake pedal, move the shift lever to D, and release the brake pedal.

      OK

      The wheels turn (the vehicle creeps forward).

    3. Turn the power switch off.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2015 - 12/2018]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [12/2018 - 07/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [07/2020 -] 

    Result: 

    OK

  6. INSPECT ENGINE SPEED 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (READY).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Engine Speed, Generator Revolution, Motor Revolution.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Engine Speed
      Generator Revolution
      Motor Revolution
    4. Read the Data List.
      1. Move the shift lever to D.
      2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal when the vehicle speed is 10 km/h (6 mph) or more.
        NOTE:

        Perform this test only in an appropriate safe location, in accordance with all local laws.

      3. Calculate the difference between the value of "Engine Speed" and "(0.28 x Generator Revolution) + (0.19 x Motor Revolution)".

        Result

        Result Proceed to
        The absolute value of the difference is less than 500 rpm. A
        The absolute value of the difference is 500 rpm or more continuously for 1 second. B
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    A 

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2015 - 12/2018]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [12/2018 - 07/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [07/2020 -] 

    Result: 

    B 

    REPLACE TRANSMISSION INPUT DAMPER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2015 - 07/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [07/2020 -] 

  7. CHECK CRANKSHAFT PULLEY REVOLUTION (N POSITION) 
    1. Lift up the vehicle.
    2. Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to select neutral (N).
    3. Turn the crankshaft pulley using hand tools to check if the crankshaft can rotate smoothly.
      WARNING:

      Do not turn the power switch on (READY) while performing this inspection. Be sure to turn the power switch off before performing this inspection, to prevent the engine from starting.

      NOTE:

      Engine compression causes resistance when turning the crankshaft pulley. Check if the crankshaft rotates smoothly (or if it is locked) by manually applying sufficient torque to turn the crankshaft pulley. The torque required to turn the crankshaft pulley should be the same as for a known good vehicle of the same type.

      OK

      The crankshaft rotates smoothly.

    4. Lower the vehicle.

      Result
