Installation [10/2014 - ]: Procedure

1. Install the rear lower coil spring insulator onto the rear shock absorber assembly.

   NOTE:

   Align the protrusion of the rear lower coil spring insulator and the hole in the rear shock absorber assembly.

1. Install the rear No. 1 spring bumper to the rear shock absorber assembly.
   NOTE:

   Face the smaller diameter end of the rear No. 1 spring bumper downward.

1. Attach SST to the rear coil spring and secure it in a vise.

2. Attach the arms of SST to the diameter of the rear coil spring.

   WARNING:

   • Make sure that the rear coil spring is installed so that the distance between the upper and lower arms of SST is at the maximum.
   • Make sure that the claws of the arms are securely attached.
3. Using SST, compress the rear coil spring.
   WARNING:

   • If the rear coil spring bends during compression, immediately stop compression and reinstall SST.
   • Do not excessively compress the spring so that the coils contact each other.
   • Do not use an impact wrench. It will damage SST.
4. Install the rear coil spring to the rear shock absorber assembly.

   NOTE:

   • The smaller diameter end of the rear coil spring must face upward.
   • Make sure to fit the end of the rear coil spring that has the larger diameter into the depression of the rear lower coil spring insulator.

1. Install the rear suspension support assembly to the rear shock absorber assembly.

   NOTE:

   Align the notches of the piston rod and the rear suspension support assembly as shown in the illustration before installing the rear suspension support assembly.

2. Align the notch of the rear shock absorber assembly with the notch of the rear suspension support assembly so that the notches face the outside of the vehicle.

1. Install the rear support to rear shock absorber collar to the rear shock absorber assembly.

1. Temporarily tighten a new rear support to rear shock absorber nut to the rear shock absorber assembly.
2. Release the rear coil spring while adjusting the rear suspension support assembly to the position shown in the illustration, and remove SST from the rear coil spring.

   NOTE:

   Do not use an impact wrench. It will damage SST.

   HINT: 

   Make sure to align the outer stud bolt on the rear suspension support assembly to within +/- 5° of the center of the rear shock absorber lower bracket as shown in the illustration.

1. Install the rear shock absorber with coil spring to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly and insert the 2 bolts from the rear of the vehicle.

2. Slowly jack up the suspension using a wooden block and install the rear shock absorber with coil spring (upper side) to the vehicle.
3. Install the 3 nuts to the rear shock absorber with coil spring (upper side).

   Torque: 39 N*m (400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf) 

4. Install the 2 nuts to the rear shock absorber with coil spring (lower side).

   Torque: 290 N*m (2957 kgf*cm, 214 ft.*lbf) 

   NOTE:

   When installing the nuts, keep the bolts from rotating.

5. Fully tighten the rear support to rear shock absorber nut.

   Torque: 55 N*m (561 kgf*cm, 41 ft.*lbf) 

1. Install the skid control sensor wire to the rear shock absorber with coil spring with the bolt.

   Torque: 8.5 N*m (87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf) 

1. Install the rear flexible hose to the rear shock absorber with coil spring with the bolt.

   Torque: 19 N*m (192 kgf*cm, 14 ft.*lbf) 

1. Install the rear stabilizer link assembly to the rear shock absorber with coil spring with the nut.

   Torque: 39 N*m (400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf) 

   If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a 5 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud.

1. Engage the 4 claws and install the rear No. 1 suspension support cover.

Torque: 103 N*m (1049 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
