Installation [11/2016 - ]: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Toyota Highlander, 2018 Toyota Highlander, and 2017 Toyota Highlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. INSTALL FUEL TANK CUSHION 
    1. Install a new No. 1 fuel tank cushion to the fuel tank assembly.
    2. Install 4 new No. 1 fuel tank cushions, a new No. 2 fuel tank cushion and a new No. 3 fuel tank cushion to the fuel tank assembly.
  2. INSTALL GROMMET 
    1. Install the grommet to the fuel tank assembly.
  3. INSTALL NO. 1 FUEL TUBE CLAMP 
    1. Install the No. 1 fuel tube clamp to the fuel tank assembly.
  4. INSTALL FUEL TANK MAIN TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Engage the clamp to install the fuel tank main tube sub-assembly to the fuel tank assembly.
  5. INSTALL FUEL TANK WIRE 
    1. Engage the 6 clamps to install the fuel tank wire to the fuel tank assembly.
  6. INSTALL FUEL TANK SOLENOID MAIN VALVE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the fuel tank solenoid main valve assembly to the fuel tank assembly with the 2 nuts.

      Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf) 

    2. Connect the fuel tank vent hose sub-assembly to the fuel tank assembly.
      NOTE:
      • Check that there are no scratches or foreign matter around the connecting parts of the fuel tank vent hose sub-assembly and fuel tank assembly before performing this work.
      • After connecting the fuel tank vent hose sub-assembly, check that the fuel tank vent hose sub-assembly is securely connected by pulling on the fuel tank vent hose sub-assembly.
    3. Connect the fuel tank solenoid main valve assembly connector.
  7. INSTALL FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY

  8. INSTALL FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Set the fuel tank assembly on an engine lifter.

      HINT: 

      Using height adjustment attachments and plate lift attachments, keep the fuel tank assembly horizontal.

    2. Using the engine lifter, slowly raise the fuel tank assembly, and then install the fuel tank assembly with the No. 1 fuel tank band sub-assembly LH and No. 1 fuel tank band sub-assembly RH with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 39.2 N*m (400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to drop the fuel tank assembly.
      • When installing the fuel tank assembly, tilt it slightly to prevent it from interfering with the surrounding parts.
  9. CONNECT FUEL TANK TO FILLER PIPE HOSE 
    1. Connect fuel tank to filler pipe hose to the fuel tank assembly.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [11/2016 - ]

  10. CONNECT FUEL TANK WIRE 
    1. Engage the clamp to connect the fuel tank wire.
    2. Connect the 2 fuel tank wire connectors.
  11. CONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly with the bolt and nut.

      Torque: 6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf) 

  12. CONNECT FUEL TANK BREATHER ELBOW TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the fuel tank breather elbow tube sub-assembly to the fuel tank assembly.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [11/2016 - ]

  13. CONNECT FUEL TANK MAIN TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the fuel tank main tube sub-assembly to the fuel pipe.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [11/2016 - ]

  14. CONNECT FUEL TANK VENT HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Engage the clamp to connect the fuel tank vent hose sub-assembly.
    2. Connect the fuel tank vent hose sub-assembly to the canister (charcoal canister assembly).

      Refer to PRECAUTION [11/2016 - ]

  15. INSTALL NO. 1 FUEL TANK PROTECTOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Engage the 4 grommets to install the No. 1 fuel tank protector sub-assembly to the fuel tank assembly.
    2. Install the screw.
  16. INSTALL NO. 3 FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR 
    1. Install the No. 3 front floor heat insulator to the vehicle body with the 4 nuts.

      Torque: 4.9 N*m (50 kgf*cm, 43 in.*lbf) 

  17. INSTALL FRONT CENTER FLOOR COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  18. INSTALL CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to INSTALLATION [11/2016 - ]

  19. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

    Refer to INITIALIZATION [11/2016 - ]

  20. INSTALL NO. 3 DECK BOARD SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 70

  21. INSTALL DECK BOARD ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 71

  22. ADD FUEL 
  23. INSPECT FOR FUEL LEAK 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1
