Installation [02/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Support the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly using a jack and wooden block.
      WARNING:

      Do not jack up the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly too high as the vehicle may fall.

      NOTE:

      When jacking up the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly, be sure to jack it up slowly.

    2. Apply 0.1 to 0.3 g (0.00353 to 0.0105 oz) of Toyota Body Grease W to each of the 4 areas shown in the illustration.

    3. Align the matchmarks and install the rear drive shaft assembly to the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
      NOTE:
      • Do not damage the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot.
      • Check for any foreign matter on the insertion part.

    4. Align the matchmarks on the rear drive shaft assembly and differential side gear shaft sub-assembly.

    5. Install the 4 nuts and 4 washers.

      Torque: 56 N*m (571 kgf*cm, 41 ft.*lbf) 

  2. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT 
    1. Clean the threaded parts on the rear drive shaft assembly and a new rear axle shaft nut using non-residue solvent.
      NOTE:
      • Be sure to perform this work even when using a new rear drive shaft assembly.
      • Keep the threaded parts free of oil and foreign matter.
    2. Using a 30 mm socket wrench, install the rear axle shaft nut.

      Torque: 294 N*m (2998 kgf*cm, 217 ft.*lbf) 

      HINT: 

      Keep depressing the brake pedal to prevent the drive shaft from rotating.

    3. Using a chisel and hammer, stake the rear axle shaft nut.
  3. INSTALL REAR SUSPENSION ARM COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6 , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  4. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  5. INSTALL CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (TWC: Rear Catalyst) (for RH Side) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5 , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  6. INSTALL REAR WHEEL 

    Torque: 103 N*m (1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf) 

  7. CHECK FOR SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL 

    Refer to TEST MODE PROCEDURE [02/2014 - 11/2016] , or refer to TEST MODE PROCEDURE [11/2016 - ]
