Stop and Start System does not Operate (Battery Condition) [11/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY 
    1. Check whether the multi-information display displayed that the specified battery is not equipped.

      HINT: 

      The multi-information display is displayed when the voltage decreases below the minimum voltage necessary for starting the non-specified battery when stop and start control is operated.

  2. CHECK DTC OUTPUT 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs.

    Check whether stop and start control was prohibited based on the battery conditions or other conditions.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Data List / Stop&Start Operating Permission (Power Management).

    HINT: 

    Check the operation of the backup boost converter.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.

    Check if stop and start control was prohibited due to condition of the generator assembly.

    1. Start the engine.

    HINT: 

    • If Idling Stop Rate is more than threshold or Total Idling Stop Rate is more than threshold, leave the vehicle with the engine running until Idling Stop Rate drops below threshold or Total Idling Stop Rate drops below threshold.

    • Prohibition according to the Idling Stop Rate is used to limit a high frequency of stop and start operations in order to ensure the lifespan of the battery. Operation may be prohibited again due to the customer usage conditions.

    HINT: 

    • If Battery Temperature is not a suitable temperature, leave the vehicle at ambient temperature to allow Battery Temperature to return to a suitable temperature.
    • Operation is prohibited due to the battery temperature to ensure engine startability and protect the battery. This occurs due to the usage environment.

    HINT: 

    Check whether stop and start control was prohibited based on the battery charge control mode.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and allow it to idle.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Data List / Status of Battery Charge Control.

    HINT: 

    Let the vehicle idle with the battery temperature at 11°C (52°F) or higher for 30 to 60 minutes to complete the refresh charge. (The refresh charge is complete when Status of Battery Charge Control changes from "Refresh Charge Mode".)

    After the refresh charge completes, turn the ignition switch off, wait for at least 30 seconds, and then start the engine again. If the vehicle enters refresh charge mode again while the engine is idling, the initial refresh charge did not properly complete, so wait for the refresh charge to complete.

      • Initialize* the battery integrated current using the Techstream after charging the battery, and drive the vehicle until the stop and start control operates (approximately 5 to 40 minutes).

        *: Use the Techstream to perform Integrated Current Value Initialization.

        HINT: 

        If the Data List item "Integrated Current" is 0 Asec or higher, it is not necessary to perform initialization.

      • When the battery state sensor assembly current value is normal, recharge or replace the battery
      • When the electrical load is large, a large amount of electrical discharge occurs. As a result, the integrated current value (battery charge amount) tends to drop causing operation to be prohibited.

    NEXT 

    CHARGE OR REPLACE BATTERY AFTER CHECKING BATTERY STATE AND THEN INITIALIZE INTEGRATED CURRENT VALUE AND DRIVE VEHICLE UNTIL STOP AND START CONTROL OPERATES (APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 40 MINUTES)

  14. CHARGE OR REPLACE BATTERY AFTER CHECKING BATTERY STATE 
    1. Check the battery.

      Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [11/2016 - ]

      HINT: 

      • Charge or replace the battery according to the check result.
      • When the cable is disconnected from the battery terminal or the charging control system is checked (ECM connector is disconnected), do not perform this procedure, as there is a high possibility that the system may enter refresh charge mode and operation may be prohibited.
    2. Check the starter inrush current reduction relay.

      Refer to Starter Inrush Current Reduction Relay Circuit [11/2016 - ] 

    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Start the engine.
    5. Turn the Techstream on.
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Data List / Battery Current.

    8. While idling, illuminate the headlights (Lo).

      HINT: 

      The headlights (Lo) are illuminated so that charging control is prohibited, which sets the voltage to a fixed value.

    9. Charge the battery for approximately 5 minutes after Battery Current drops 5 A or less.

      HINT: 

      The Data List item Battery Current decreases when the battery is charged. If the battery is charged for 5 minutes after Battery Current drops to 5 A or less, it can be determined that the battery is sufficiently charged.

    10. Turn off the headlights.
    11. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 30 seconds or more.
    12. Start the engine and check the following Data List items.

    13. Replace the battery in the following situations.
      • Stop&Start Operating Permission (Start Minimum Volt (1 and 2)) are not OK
      • Stop&Start Operating Permission (Start Minimum Volt (1 and 2)) are OK, but Min Voltage (Cranking) and Min Volt (After Cranking) values are close to permission criteria
