DTC BMS_f079: Contactor Power Supply Interrupted [09/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. CONFIRM SERVICE PLUG GRIP INSTALLATION 
    WARNING:
    • Unexpected high voltage may be present.
    • Wear insulated gloves and protective goggles.
    1. Visually check the connection of the service plug grip to the electric vehicle battery assembly. Remove the service plug grip and check for contamination.

      OK

      Dirt or foreign objects have not entered the connection, and there is no evidence of contamination.

    2. Securely reinstall the service plug grip.

    NG → See step   17 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK FOR ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: System Select / Health Check.
    5. Read the DTCs.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      Only BMS_f079 is output A
      BMS_f079 and other DTCs are output B

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than alert code BMS_f079 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

    B → GO TO DTC CHART 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT AUXILIARY BATTERY 
    1. Inspect the auxiliary battery voltage. Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [09/2013 - ] .

      OK

      Battery is not depleted.

    NG → See step   13 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK PYROTECHNIC SAFETY SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E128-2 (CNT-) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

      (Pyrotechnic Safety Switch Assembly)

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY - PYROTECHNIC SAFETY SWITCH)

    1. Disconnect connector h1 from the electric vehicle battery.

    2. Disconnect connector E128 from the pyrotechnic safety switch.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      h1-7 (CNTB) - E128-2 (CNT-) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      h1-7 (CNTB) or E128-2 (CNT-) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 1 kΩ or higher

  6. CHECK PYROTECHNIC SAFETY SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E128-1 (CNT+) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

  7. CHECK INTEGRATION RELAY (CONTACTOR RELAY)

    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      1B-8 - Body ground Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      1C-1 - Body ground Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (INTEGRATION RELAY - AUXILIARY BATTERY) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK CONTACTOR FUSE

    1. Remove the CONTACTOR fuse from the No. 1 motor compartment room relay block and junction block assembly.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      CONTACTOR fuse terminals Always Below 1 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 No. 1 Motor Compartment Room Relay Block and Junction Block Assembly
      *2 CONTACTOR Fuse

    NG → CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESSES AND CONNECTORS CONNECTED TO FUSE AND REPLACE FUSE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK INTEGRATION RELAY (CONTACTOR RELAY)

    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

    OK → REPLACE INTEGRATION RELAY (CONTACTOR RELAY) 

  12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INTEGRATION RELAY - POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU)

    1. Disconnect connector 1B from the integration relay.

    2. Disconnect connector E117 from the power management control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      1B-6 - E117-3 (SMRP) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      1B-6 or E117-3 (SMRP) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 1 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  13. RECHARGE AUXILIARY BATTERY. Refer to  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [09/2013 - ] - Step 3 
  14. REPLACE NO. 1 WIRING CIRCUIT BREAKER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] 
  15. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] 
  16. REPLACE ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ] 
  17. REPAIR OR REPLACE SERVICE PLUG GRIP. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2013 - ]
