DTC P314A-828: Inverter Coolant Pump Speed Signal: Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE THE WATER PUMP) 
    NOTE:

    Be sure to perform the inspection with the auxiliary battery voltage at 11 V or more.

    HINT: 

    When the auxiliary battery voltage is low, the inverter water pump assembly may not operate.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Activate the Water Pump.
    4. Perform the Activate the Water Pump Active Test.
    5. Touch the inverter water pump assembly and check that it is operating (vibrating).

      OK

      The inverter water pump is operating (vibrating).

    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR). See step   10 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect connector A21 from the power management control ECU.
    2. Disconnect connector g1 from the inverter water pump assembly.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      g1-2 (NWP) - A21-14 (NIWP) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      g1-3 (SWP) - A21-13 (IWP) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      g1-2 (NWP) or A21-14 (NIWP) -Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      g1-3 (SWP) or A21-13 (IWP) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Connect the power management control ECU connector.
    5. Connect the inverter water pump assembly connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU 
    1. Disconnect connector g1 from the inverter water pump assembly.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A21-14 (NIWP) - L5-6 (E1) Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Power Management Control ECU)
    4. Turn the power switch off.
    5. Connect the inverter water pump assembly connector.

    NG → See step   16 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE THE WATER PUMP) 
    NOTE:

    Be sure to perform the inspection with the auxiliary battery voltage at 11 V or more.

    HINT: 

    When the auxiliary battery voltage is low, the inverter water pump assembly may not operate.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Activate the Water Pump.
    4. Select Inverter W/P Revolution in the Data List.
    5. While performing the "Activate the Water Pump" Active Test, check Inverter W/P Revolution in the Data List.

      Result

      Data List Item Specified Condition
      Inverter W/P Revolution 125 RPM or higher

      HINT: 

      Perform the Active Test with the inverter coolant temperature between -15 and 65°C (5 to 149°F).

    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → See step   16 

    OK → See step   15 

  7. CHECK FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 
    1. Remove the IGCT No. 3 fuse from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      IGCT No. 3 fuse Always Below 1Ω

      *1 Engine Room Relay Block and Junction Block Assembly
      *2 IGCT No. 3 Fuse
    3. Install the IGCT No. 3 fuse.

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR). See step   10 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY CIRCUIT) 
    1. Remove the IGCT No. 3 fuse from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.
    2. Remove the IGCT relay from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.
    3. Disconnect connector A21 from the power management control ECU.
    4. Disconnect connector g1 from the inverter water pump assembly.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      2 (IGCT No. 3 fuse) or g1-4 (+BWP) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      1 (IGCT No. 3 fuse) or 5 (IGCT relay) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      g1-2 (NWP) or A21-14 (NIWP) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      NOTE:

      Do not apply excessive force when using the probes of the tester to perform the inspection. If excessive force is used, the terminals will be damaged.

    6. Install the IGCT No. 3 fuse.
    7. Install the IGCT relay.
    8. Connect the power management control ECU connector.
    9. Connect the inverter water pump assembly connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   15 

  10. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR). See step   10 

    NG → See step   13 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY CIRCUIT) 
    1. Remove the IGCT No. 3 fuse from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.
    2. Disconnect connector g1 from the inverter water pump assembly.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      2 (IGCT No. 3 fuse) or g1-4 (+BWP) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      (to Inverter Water Pump Assembly)
      NOTE:

      Do not apply excessive force when using the probes of the tester to perform the inspection. If excessive force is used, the terminals will be damaged.

    4. Install the IGCT No. 3 fuse.
    5. Connect the inverter water pump assembly connector.

    NG → See step   14 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. REPLACE INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to COMPONENTS

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 

  13. CONNECT SECURELY 
    1. Connect the inverter water pump assembly connector securely.

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 

  14. REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (IGCT NO. 3) 

  15. REPLACE INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  16. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS
