DTC P3107-214: Lost Communication with Airbag System Control Module: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (SRS AIRBAG) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / SRS Airbag / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Airbag system DTCs are not output. A
      Airbag system DTCs are output. B
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   14 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY (CHECK WAVEFORM). See step   2 

    B → See step   6 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CLEAR DTC. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 4 

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P3107-214 is not output. A
      DTC P3107-214 is output again. B
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   12 

    A: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA 

    OK → See step   12 

  6. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connector connections and contact pressure of the relevant terminals for the airbag ECU assembly connectors.

      *a Component with harness connected

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact pressure problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (+B SHORT) 
    1. Remove the IGCT NO. 2 fuse and AM2 fuse from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

      *1 Engine Room Relay Block and Junction Block Assembly
      *2 AM2 Fuse
      *3 IGCT NO. 2 Fuse
    2. Disconnect connector L16 from the airbag ECU assembly.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      L5-29 (ABFS) - A21-2 (+B2) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      L5-29 (ABFS) - L6-7 (AM21) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      L5-29 (ABFS) - A22-6 (MREL) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      L5-29 (ABFS) - A22-1 (IG2) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      L5-29 (ABFS) - L6-1 (ACCD) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Connect the airbag ECU assembly connector.
    5. Install the IGCT NO. 2 fuse and AM2 fuse.

    NG → See step   11 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect connector L5 from the power management control ECU.
    2. Disconnect connector L16 from the airbag ECU assembly.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      L5-29 (ABFS) - L16-14 (GSW2) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      HINT: 

      As necessary, check that there is no short to power supply wires when performing the above wire harness inspection.

    4. Connect the airbag ECU assembly connector.
    5. Connect the power management control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU 
    1. Disconnect connector L16 from the airbag ECU assembly.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      L5-29 (ABFS) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

      (Power Management Control ECU)
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the airbag ECU assembly connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    4. Turn the power switch off.
    5. Connect the airbag ECU assembly connector.

    NG → See step   12 

    OK → See step   13 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY WIRES) 
    1. Remove the IGCT NO. 2 fuse and AM2 fuse from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

    2. Disconnect connector L16 from the airbag ECU assembly.

    3. Disconnect all the connectors from the power management control ECU.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    5. Connect the power management control ECU connectors.
    6. Connect the airbag ECU assembly connector.
    7. Install the IGCT NO. 2 fuse and AM2 fuse.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   12 

  12. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  13. REPLACE AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  14. GO TO DTC CHART (AIRBAG SYSTEM). Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
