DTC P314A-828: Inverter Coolant Pump Speed Signal: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE THE WATER PUMP) 
    NOTE:

    Be sure to perform the inspection with the auxiliary battery voltage at 11 V or more.

    HINT: 

    When the auxiliary battery voltage is low, the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) may not operate.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Activate the Water Pump.
    4. Perform the Activate the Water Pump Active Test.
    5. Touch the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) and check that it is operating (vibrating).

      OK

      The inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) is operating (vibrating).

    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (W/ MOTOR) CONNECTOR) See step   10 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (W/ MOTOR)) 
    1. Disconnect connector A65 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    2. Disconnect connector A52 from the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor).
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A52-2 (NWP) - A65-14 (NIWP) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      A52-3 (SWP) - A65-13 (IWP) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      A52-2 (NWP) or A65-14 (NIWP) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      A52-3 (SWP) or A65-13 (IWP) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Connect the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Disconnect connector A52 from the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor).
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A65-14 (NIWP) - D72-6 (E1) Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
    4. Turn the ignition switch off.
    5. Connect the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) connector.

    NG → See step   15 

    OK → See step   14 

  6. CHECK FUSE (INV W/P) 
    1. Remove the INV W/P fuse from the engine room relay block No. 2.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      INV W/P fuse Always Below 1 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Engine Room Relay Block No. 2
      *2 INV W/P Fuse
    3. Install the INV W/P fuse.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (W/ MOTOR) CONNECTOR) See step   10 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (W/ MOTOR) CIRCUIT) 
    1. Remove the INV W/P fuse from the engine room relay block No. 2.
    2. Remove the IGCT MAIN relay from the engine room relay block No. 2.
    3. Disconnect connector A65 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    4. Disconnect connector A52 from the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor).
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      2 (INV W/P fuse) - A52-4 (+BWP) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      1 (INV W/P fuse) - 3 (IGCT MAIN relay) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      A52-1 (GND) - Body ground Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      A52-2 (NWP) - A65-14 (NIWP) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      A52-3 (SWP) - A65-13 (IWP) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      2 (INV W/P fuse) or A52-4 (+BWP) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      1 (INV W/P fuse) or 3 (IGCT MAIN relay) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      A52-2 (NWP) or A65-14 (NIWP) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      NOTE:

      Do not apply excessive force when using the probes of the tester to perform the inspection. If excessive force is used, the terminals will be damaged.

    6. Install the INV W/P fuse.
    7. Install the IGCT MAIN relay.
    8. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    9. Connect the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   14 

  9. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (W/ MOTOR) CONNECTOR) See step   10 

    NG → See step   12 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (W/ MOTOR) CIRCUIT) 
    1. Remove the INV W/P fuse from the engine room relay block No. 2.
    2. Disconnect connector A52 from the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor).
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      2 (INV W/P fuse) or A52-4 (+BWP) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      NOTE:

    4. Install the INV W/P fuse.
    5. Connect the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) connector.

    NG → See step   13 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. REPLACE INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (W/ MOTOR) 
    1. Replace the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor). Refer to REMOVAL .

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (INV W/P) 

  12. CONNECT SECURELY 
    1. Connect the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) connector securely.

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (INV W/P) 

  13. REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    1. Repair or replace the wire harness or connector.

    NEXT → REPLACE FUSE (INV W/P) 

  14. REPLACE INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (W/ MOTOR). Refer to  REMOVAL 
  15. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL
