DTC P0340-886: Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P0340-886 only is output. A
      DTC P0343-747 is also output. B

    B → See step   7 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (ECM CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connections of the ECM connectors.

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connections of the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors.

      OK

      The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the A67 connector from the ECM.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A67-9 (GO1) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to ECM)
      NOTE:

      Turning the ignition switch to ON with the ECM connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    4. Turn the ignition switch off.
    5. Connect the ECM connector.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK ECM 
    1. Remove the ECM.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A67-9 (GO1) - A67-22 (GO2) Always Below 1 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (ECM)
    3. Install the ECM.

    NG → See step   10 

    OK → See step   11 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the A67 connector from the ECM.
    2. Disconnect the A65 connector from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A67-9 (GO1) - A65-16 (GI) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
      A67-9 (GO1) or A65-16 (GI) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to ECM)
      *b Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
    4. Connect the ECM connector.
    5. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   11 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU, INVERTER WITH CONVERTER) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Disconnect the A67 connector from the ECM.
    3. Disconnect the A65 connector from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    4. Disconnect the A64 connector from the inverter with converter assembly.
    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    6. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A67-9 (GO1) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      A67-22 (GO2) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

      NOTE:

      Turning the ignition switch to ON with the inverter with converter assembly connector, hybrid vehicle control ECU and ECM connectors disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    7. Turn the ignition switch off.
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A67-9 (GO1) - Body ground Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      A67-22 (GO2) - Body ground Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    9. Connect the ECM connector.
    10. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    11. Connect the inverter with converter assembly connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Disconnect all the connectors from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A65-16 (GI) - D72-6 (E1) Always 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)
    3. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors.

    NG → See step   11 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Disconnect the A64 connector from the inverter with converter assembly.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A64-1 (GI) - A64-10 (GND1) Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Inverter with Converter Assembly)
    4. Connect the inverter with converter assembly connector.

    NG → See step   12 

    OK → See step   10 

  10. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  11. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  12. REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
