DTC P0C73-776: Motor Electronics Coolant Pump "A" Control Performance: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. CHECK QUANTITY OF HV COOLANT. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 3 

    B → See step   6 

    C → See step   7 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK COOLANT HOSE. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 4 

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (W/ MOTOR) 
    NOTE:

    Be sure to perform the inspection with the auxiliary battery voltage at 11 V or more.

    HINT: 

    When the auxiliary battery voltage is low, the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) may not operate.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List.
    4. Select Inverter W/P Revolution in the Data List.
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Inverter W/P Revolution is 625 RPM or less.

    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE THE WATER PUMP) 
    NOTE:

    Be sure to perform the inspection with the auxiliary battery voltage at 11 V or more.

    HINT: 

    When the auxiliary battery voltage is low, the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) may not operate.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Activate the Water Pump.
    4. Select Inverter W/P Revolution in the Data List.
    5. While performing the "Activate the Water Pump" Active Test, check Inverter W/P Revolution in the Data List.

      Result

      Data List Item Specified Condition
      Inverter W/P Revolution 2000 to 5500 RPM

      HINT: 

      Perform the Active Test with the inverter coolant temperature between 5 to 149°F (-15 and 65°C).

    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HV COOLANT (CHECK FOR CONDITIONS THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED FREEZING). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 6

    B → See step   21 

  6. ADD HV COOLANT 
    1. Add coolant up to the high level in the reserve tank.

    NEXT → See step   20 

  7. INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAKS 
    1. Diagnose and repair the coolant leak.

    NEXT → See step   20 

  8. CORRECT THE PROBLEM 
    1. Correct the coolant hose.

    NEXT → See step   20 

  9. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 3 

    NG → See step   14 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (W/ MOTOR) CONNECTOR) 
    1. Check the connection of the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) connector.

      OK

      The connector is connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG → See step   15 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (W/ MOTOR)) 
    1. Disconnect connector A65 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
    2. Disconnect connector A52 from the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor).
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A52-3 (SWP) or A65-13 (IWP) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A52-3 (SWP) - A65-13 (IWP) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A52-3 (SWP) or A65-13 (IWP) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      A52-4 (+BWP) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    7. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    8. Connect the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) connector.

    NG → See step   16 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Disconnect connector A52 from the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor).
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / ECU Data List.
    5. Select Inverter W/P Revolution in the Data List.
    6. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Inverter W/P Revolution is 125 RPM or less.

    7. Connect the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) connector.
    8. Turn the ignition switch off.

    NG → See step   17 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVE THE WATER PUMP) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. While turning the ignition switch to ON, check the waveform between the hybrid vehicle control ECU terminals.

      OK

      Waveform duty ratio is between 3% and 9%.

    3. Turn the ignition switch off.

    NG → See step   18 

    OK → See step   21 

  14. CONNECT SECURELY 
    1. Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors securely.

    NEXT → See step   20 

  15. CONNECT SECURELY 
    1. Connect the inverter water pump assembly (w/ motor) connector securely.

    NEXT → See step   20 

  16. REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    1. Repair or replace the wire harness or connector.

    NEXT → See step   20 

  17. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Replace the hybrid vehicle control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL .

    NEXT → See step   20 

  18. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Replace the hybrid vehicle control ECU. Refer to REMOVAL .

    NEXT → See step   20 

  19. REPLACE HV COOLANT. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 7 

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  20. CHECK INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (W/ MOTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 8 

    NG → See step   21 

    OK → COMPLETED 

  21. REPLACE INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY (W/ MOTOR). Refer to  REMOVAL
