Speedometer Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if CAN communication DTC is output. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication DTC is not output. A
      CAN communication DTC is output. B

    A: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the values in the table below.
      COMBINATION METER:

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Speed Meter Operation Speedometer 0, 40, 80, 120 mph (*1) -
      0, 40, 80, 120, 160, 200 km/h (*2)

      *1: for U.S.A.

      *2: except for U.S.A.

      OK

      Needle indication is normal.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the values in the table below.
      COMBINATION METER:

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Vehicle Speed Meter Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), Max.: 255 km/h (158 mph) Almost same as actual speed (When driving) -

      OK

      Vehicle speed displayed on the tester is almost the same as the actual vehicle speed measured using a speedometer tester (calibrated chassis dynamometer).

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → See step   7 

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.
      ABS/VSC/TRAC:

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      FR Wheel Speed Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), Max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Almost the same as actual speed (Speedometer tester) -
      FL Wheel Speed Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), Max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Almost the same as actual speed (Speedometer tester) -
      RR Wheel Speed Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), Max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Almost the same as actual speed (Speedometer tester) -
      RL Wheel Speed Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), Max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) Almost the same as actual speed (Speedometer tester) -

      OK

      Vehicle speed displayed on the tester is almost the same as the actual vehicle speed measured using a speedometer tester (calibrated chassis dynamometer).

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU 
    1. Replace the skid control ECU with a new or a normal one. Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5 .

      OK

      The operation of the speedometer returns to normal.

    OK → END 

  6. GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  7. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  8. GO TO BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING
