DTC P0ADF-229: Hybrid Battery Negative Contactor Control Circuit Low; DTC P0AE0-228: Hybrid Battery Negative Contactor Control Circuit High: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (BATTERY PACK WIRE CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - BATTERY PACK WIRE CONNECTOR) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect the A61 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    3. Disconnect the battery pack wire connector. Refer to REMOVAL .

    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      SMRG (A61-96) - Body ground Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    6. Turn the power switch off.
    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      SMRG (A61-96) - CON3 (On1-2) Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      SMRG (A61-96) or CON3 (On1-2) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HV RELAY CONNECTOR) See step   6 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HV RELAY ASSEMBLY - BATTERY PACK WIRE CONNECTOR) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Turn the power switch off and remove the service plug grip. Refer to PRECAUTION .
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Disconnect the n3 HV relay assembly connector. Refer to REMOVAL .

    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      CON3 (On1-2) - Body ground Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the battery pack wire connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      CON3 (On1-2) - CON3 (n3-1) Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      CON3 (On1-2) or CON3 (n3-1) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Connect the battery pack wire connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      GND (n3-2) - Body ground Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HV RELAY ASSEMBLY (SMRG) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
    2. Remove the HV relay assembly from the vehicle. Refer to REMOVAL .
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      h3-1 - t1-1 10 kΩ or more
      h3-1 - t1-1 Below 1 Ω
      (When battery voltage (12 V) applied to terminals n3-1 and n3-2)
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      CON3 (n3-1) - GND (n3-2) 18.8 to 32.1 Ω at -35 to 80°C (-31 to 176°F)

    NG → See step   9 

    OK → See step   8 

  8. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  9. REPLACE HV RELAY ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL
