Inspection Procedure
- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE ELECTRIC COOLING FAN)
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain/Engine/Active Test/Control the Electric Cooling Fan.
- Check the operation of the cooling fans while operating it using the Techstream.

- INSPECT COOLING FAN MOTOR (COOLING FAN MOTOR AND NO. 2 COOLING FAN MOTOR)
- Disconnect the cooling fan motor and No. 2 cooling fan motor connectors.
- Connect a battery positive (+) lead to each terminal 2 of the cooling fan motor and No. 2 cooling fan motor connectors, and connect a battery negative (-) lead to each terminal 1 of the cooling fan motor and No. 2 cooling fan motor connectors.
OK:
The cooling fan motors operate.
Result
RESULT CHARTResult Proceed to OK A NG (Cooling fan motor) B NG (No. 2 Cooling fan motor) C - Reconnect the cooling fan motor connectors.
B: REPLACE COOLING FAN MOTOR (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )
C: REPLACE NO. 2 COOLING FAN MOTOR (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )
A: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COOLING FAN ECU POWER SOURCE)
- Disconnect the cooling fan ECU connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition A9-3 (+B1) - A9-1 (E1) Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V - Reconnect the cooling fan ECU connector.
NG: Go to step 5
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - COOLING FAN ECU)
- Disconnect the ECM connector.
- Disconnect the cooling fan ECU connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition D61-10 (RFC) or A9-2 (SI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher - Reconnect the cooling fan ECU connector.
- Reconnect the ECM connector.
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ECM - COOLING FAN ECU)

OK: REPLACE COOLING FAN ECU (See COOLING FAN SYSTEM )
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COOLING FAN ECU - BODY GROUND)
- Disconnect the cooling fan ECU connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition A9-1 (E1) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω - Reconnect the cooling fan ECU connector.
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (COOLING FAN ECU - BODY GROUND)
OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT RELAY (FAN MAIN)
- Remove the FAN MAIN relay from the engine room relay block.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition 3 - 5 No battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2 10 kΩ or higher 3 - 5 Battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω - Reinstall the FAN MAIN relay.
NG: REPLACE RELAY (FAN MAIN RELAY)
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FAN MAIN RELAY POWER SOURCE)
- Remove the FAN MAIN relay from the engine room relay block.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition 3 (FAN MAIN relay) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V - Reinstall the FAN MAIN relay.
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (FAN MAIN RELAY - BATTERY)
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COOLING FAN ECU - FAN MAIN RELAY)
- Remove the FAN MAIN relay from the engine room relay block.
- Disconnect the cooling fan ECU connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition A9-3 (+B1) - 5 (FAN MAIN relay) Always Below 1 Ω Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition A9-3 (+B1) or 5(FAN MAIN relay) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher - Reconnect the cooling fan ECU connector.
- Reinstall the FAN MAIN relay.

OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (FAN MAIN RELAY - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY)
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - COOLING FAN ECU)
- Disconnect the ECM connector.
- Disconnect the cooling fan ECU connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition D61-10 (RFC) - A9-2 (SI) Always Below 1 Ω - Reconnect the cooling fan ECU connector.
- Reconnect the ECM connector.
