Transmission Control Cable: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
  2. REMOVE NO. 2 CYLINDER HEAD COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  3. REMOVE BATTERY  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE BATTERY TRAY 
  5. REMOVE BATTERY CARRIER  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the 3 nuts and remove the No. 1 front floor heat insulator.
  10. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LH  (See REMOVAL )
  11. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL RH  (See REMOVAL )

  12. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  13. REMOVE CENTER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  14. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  15. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX INSERT  (See REMOVAL )
  16. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 CONSOLE BOX INSERT  (See REMOVAL )
  17. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  18. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX CARPET  (See REMOVAL )
  19. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  20. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the control shift cable from the shift lever assembly.
    2. Remove the clip and disconnect the control select cable from the shift lever assembly.

    3. Using a screwdriver, pull out the stopper of the transmission control cable.
      NOTE: Do not remove the stopper. If it is removed, reinstall it to its original position.

    4. Rotate the nut counterclockwise approximately 180° and, while holding the nut in that position, disconnect the transmission control cable from the shift lever retainer.
      NOTE: Do not rotate the nut excessively as it may damage the internal spring and the transmission control cable will not be reusable.

    5. Remove the 2 clips and disconnect the 2 transmission control cables from the transaxle.
    6. Remove the 2 clips and disconnect the 2 transmission control cables from the control cable bracket.

    7. Remove the nut and transmission control cable assembly.

    8. Remove the 2 nuts and transmission control cable assembly.
