Inspection Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL SENDER GAUGE) 
    1. Operate the Techstream according to the display and select the Data List (See DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST  ).

      Combination Meter 

      DIAGNOSTIC NOTE CHART

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Input Fuel sender gauge (main) input signal/Min.: 0, Max.: 127.5 Fuel sender input value Unit: L

      OK: Fuel value displayed on the Techstream is almost the same as needle indication. 

    NG: Go to step 2 

    OK: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - FUEL SENDER GAUGE AND BODY GROUND)

    1. Disconnect the E7 and E8 meter connectors.
    2. Disconnect the N1 gauge connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E8-9 (L) - N1-2 (FS) Always Below 1 Ω
      E8-21 (E) - N1-3 (FE)
      E7-15 (ET) - Body ground
      E8-9 (L) or N1-2 (FS)-Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  3. INSPECT FUEL SUCTION WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge (See REMOVAL ).
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (FS) - 2 (FS) Always Below 1 Ω
      3 (FE) - 1 (FE)

    NG: REPLACE FUEL SUCTION WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: Go to next step. 

  4. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge (See REMOVAL ).
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (FS) - 3 (FE) Float level is F (upper) 12 to 18 Ω
      Float level is E (lower) 405 to 415 Ω

    NG: REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )
