Spiral Cable: Installation

  1. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE 
    1. Engage the 6 claws and 2 pins, and install the spiral cable to the steering angle sensor.

  2. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE WITH STEERING ANGLE SENSOR 
    1. Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
    2. Set the turn signal switch to the neutral position.
      NOTE: If it is not in the neutral position, the turn signal switch pin may be snapped.
    3. Install the spiral cable with steering angle sensor with the 3 claws.
      NOTE: When replacing the spiral cable with a new one, remove the lock pin before installing the steering wheel assembly.

    4. Connect the connectors to the spiral cable with steering angle sensor.
      NOTE: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
  3. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER  (See INSTALLATION )
  4. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE 
    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.
    2. Check that the battery negative (-) cable is disconnected.
      CAUTION: Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent airbag deployment.
    3. Rotate the spiral cable counterclockwise slowly by hand until it stops.
      NOTE: Do not turn the spiral cable using the airbag wire harness.

    4. Rotate the spiral cable clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks.
      NOTE: Do not turn the spiral cable using the airbag wire harness.

      HINT:

      The spiral cable will rotate approximately 2.5 turns to both the left and right from the center.

  5. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  6. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT 
  7. INSTALL STEERING PAD  (See INSTALLATION  )
  8. INSTALL LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See INSTALLATION  )
  9. INSTALL LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See INSTALLATION  )
  10. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
  11. INSPECT STEERING PAD  (See INSTALLATION  )
  12. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT 
    1. Inspect the SRS warning light (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM  ).
