Driver Side Knee Airbag Assembly: Removal

  1. PRECAUTION 
    CAUTION: Be sure to read "PRECAUTION" thoroughly before servicing (See PRECAUTION  ).
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent airbag deployment.
    NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
  3. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Manual Air Conditioning System)  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Air Conditioning System)  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts.

    2. Disengage the 2 hooks.

    3. Pull out the driver side knee airbag assembly from the vehicle and support the driver side knee airbag assembly with one hand as shown below.
      NOTE: When removing the driver side knee airbag assembly, do not pull the airbag wire harness.

    4. Disconnect the tire pressure warning reset switch connector.
    5. Using a screwdriver with the tip wrapped with protective tape, disconnect the driver side knee airbag connector.
      NOTE: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    6. Disengage the 2 claws and separate the DLC3 from the driver side knee airbag assembly.

  8. REMOVE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING RESET SWITCH  (See REMOVAL )
