Water Pump: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  2. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (See  COOLANT   ) 
  4. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  5. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  6. REMOVE COOLER COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  7. REMOVE DRIVE BELT (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
  8. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the radiator assembly (see REMOVAL  ).
  9. REMOVE OIL COOLER PIPE (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  10. REMOVE TIMING BELT 
    1. Remove the timing belt (see REMOVAL ).
  11. REMOVE NO. 2 TIMING BELT IDLER PULLEY SUBASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and idler pulley.
  12. REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING 
    1. Disconnect the water by-pass hose from the water inlet housing.
    2. Remove the 2 bolts holding the water inlet housing to the water pump.

    3. Disconnect the water inlet housing from the front water by-pass joint, and remove the water inlet and inlet housing.
  13. REMOVE WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 5 bolts, 2 stud bolts, nut, water pump and gasket.

    2. Remove the O-ring from the water by-pass pipe.
